Ok so "brown" could cover the million different shades of brown rather than black no?

You cannot look at someone an just assume she has no black friends!

I have seen her on twitter a few times, she most definitely does have black friends, she has also been in a few black british/american rap singers and a Nigerian singer music videos.

Her skin lightening and pale makeup?

Well there you f***ing go then. It kind of supports what Jemima was trying to say. That she wouldn't go for really dark black, but would go for a lighter hue like Daley.
Nothing against black people at all if you're speaking about race as opposed to literal colour hue.

You said "individually". Which is problematic. Because Beyonce has brown skin, but so does Idris Alba. Must we label each shade of brown "indvidually" or should we just summarize as the black race?....

well she certainly looks to me like she's trying to lighten her face a little, but the make-up looks a bit yellow to me - a little malaysian

but to jump from that to saying she has no black friends is pushing it

It's exactly what she was saying if she was saying she didn't go for really pale guys she wouldn't have been called into the diary room but its the same thing

Now now, don't get uppity with me my friend. I'm just trying to compromise and see things from the other poster's point of view.
Black? Mixed Race? whatever, it makes no odds to me.

I really am easy about how you want to view it. Some people of mixed race like to be seen as mixed race, some like to be seen as black, I don't mind either way as it's up to them how they want to see themselves or be perceived.

Now that is a damn lie. You shouldn't speak for the black community if you don't know wtf you're talking about Black people are very expressive with their hair as are every other race. But they can't be frying and dying and ironing their hair all the time, other wise they will damage it. Secondly, black hair is not suited to the humidity of british weather. Black people hair grows faster in their natural enviroment(carribean/africa). That is why they were wigs and weaves. It's to protect your hair. Black people can grow there hair as long as they want, as long as they take care of it

I don't know what kind of black friend would encourage someone to do that to their face. It would make more sense if she had white friends, as they wouldn't know any better

Are white people the colour white??? I would say they range from blushed pink to olive toned.

Same for black people. Are black people black skinned? I would say they range from honey/caramel (as seen in ethnic groups in South and West Africa) to very dark brown (e.g. north east africans). Using skin tone as a way to judge what race is ignorant and harks back to a time when this was done to divide and conquer.

I think it's ridiculous grouping people together by colour I say what I see if a tanned or olive skinned guy stole my purse I wouldn't describe him as white to the police I'd describe him by what he looked like
I think it's ridiculous to call a light browned skinned person as black when they clearly are not and I'm surprised more people are not offended to be labeled something they are not I'd much prefer not to be classed as white although to be fair most of the time I am

Exactly.. and she was ASKED about her dating preference -- and she answered. I am not sure why Gina even cares who Jem dates? Why is it her concern? I am sure there are a lot of people that Gina would not date either.. Who cares?

Did you read my post?? That exactly my point! You cannot group people together using skin colour. However, there are certain features that clearly identify people as belonging to particular race. That's like me saying to Mediterranean people "you're too dark to be classed as white" which is incorrect as they may differ in skin tone to a Nordic but they are of the same race.

The OP poses an unexpectedly interesting question. Jemima was of course talking to Michael not Gina, but knew that Gina was listening. I don't think many people would state that they wouldn't date a black man, a) to someone they barely knew; and b) in the presence of a black woman. And when Gina asked "Why wouldn't you date a black man" it really was time to extricate herself gracefully from a possible hole, not to dig it 1000 times deeper by suggesting that of course a black woman would never (should never?) date a white man.

1. She dislikes Gina and said what she knew would piss her off; or

2. She genuinely does believe, in spite of being 41, that black people always date black people and white people date white (or 'dark' white) people; or

3. She was being a tiny bit Emily, and trying to sound rather cool and edgy and "let's be brave about this and say the kind of thing that most people wouldn't say".”

You've shifted some things in ways that make Gina sound better than she was and Jemima worse than she was.

I don't think Gina did say "Why wouldn't you date a black man?" She said, "What’s wrong with black men?”

There was no "always" stated or implied when Jemima said "you probably wouldn’t go for a white guy.”

Nor did Jemima suggest "that of course a black woman would never (should never?) date a white man"

And Jemima didn't say anything that implied she thought "white people" always, only, or even usually (you seem to mean "always") "date white (or 'dark' white) people".

I also don't think it was clear that Jemima "knew that Gina was listening".

Why did Jemima even say that in front of Gina?

Because she is an ignorant racist fool.

And the blonde hair.

Besides, her father is a Latino, so she's mixed race.

Latino is NOT a race. It can apply to different ethnic groups as evidenced by Jennifer Lopez, Zoe Saldana and Cameron Diaz. All latina, all different races.
