Yeah there's a smaller thread in the Reality TV section. It does make the episode seem rather short and I get the impression we don't find enough about the daters but maybe that's just a perception and perhaps they get the same amount of edit time as in the traditional hour episode and it just seems less.

Thanks for that, odd that essentially the same show appears in two different sub forums. Yes they do seem shorter, probably due to the opening blurb taking up time on both half hour editions even when it shows the same couples.

Like that you question the dating etiquette of the woman 'wearing' her sex toy. Seeing as how the date was going, I think she was on a wind up, challenging the 'famous' Big Brother contestant ....

I would like to because I am one of the oldies and I've not been at all successful in getting a lasting relationship. I'm always surprised at how well matched the couples they put together are for the most part although I think people who could make a good go of it bow out because of 'no spark.' Being older and wiser if they could match me with someone similar I think I could be onto a winner.

Don't forget there are something like 200 daters, well that's been mentioned in the voiceover.
What we see might be the cream of the crop, the ones who don't make the edit, could be sat there in silence or struggling to be civil to each other.
The older the daters, the greater the distance between them.
I'm guessing more sub 30 year olds apply.

IMO someone can grow on you even if there isn't that initial spark, but I think you really need to get on well, to bother seeing them again.
It's a PITA if one person is in the friendzone and the other is trying to get out of it.

I suspect many of those who bow out after a good date, feel the whole process made them a bit giddy, the cameras, the staff, fussing from the crew, when they calm down and look back they're not so impressed with the date.

You're right in all you say here. I would have tried internet dating years ago if I was that desperate. I'm happy enough on my own. It just appeared that the First Dates team had a high success rate but you are right, maybe at the end of the day most of it isn't such a roaring success.

Looking back at my post in light of what you've posted, looks like I've got a huge downer the program, which I haven't, I like it a lot, nice people having a nice time.

My 'happy enough' with my own company is plenty. And I am actually extremely happy and content compared to very many who are in relationships/marriages. It would be wonderful to be 'more than happy enough,' but happiness is not guaranteed by getting in a relationship and pity the poor souls who think that's the most important thing in life.

No comments tonight? More seemingly lovely people having a good time. The producers really have got the matches spot on in most cases. Disappointed that birthday lady didn't want to see Chicago bloke again. I completely got what he (graciously) said about not settling but all the same thought she was missing a trick letting him go. I do think the closing update at the end should be more comprehensive. Too often it's "they went for drinks in soho/hoxton/camden (delete as applicable) after the date" but no further info.

I think Jane and Nick were covered in their outro interview. Went well, seeing each other again. Same with Chicago geezer and the phlebotomist , they made it clear there would be no more . The final update needs to clarify how things are going for those who may have seemed a bit ambiguous on the night .

I have a theory that after that awful end of date interview with a city boy knob (who later went on a date with anthea turner) that people are reticent to say what they really think.

The city bloke - a Jeremy obviously - appeared to have a nice date with a lovely woman. In the after date interview he said "ladies first" or something, she said yes lovely date would like to see u again . He then stuck the knife in and said no way. Things erupted on here a bit at the time. Why would anyone be that delberately unkind?

Ever since, daters have seemed a bit wary of showing their hand. I saw one of the Dublin shows when interviewed separately they were all "yes love to meet again " but when face to face both stalled. "You first, you first" . She ventured "well maybe we'll see each other as friends?" He jumped on that bandwagon and said "no chemistry, friends only" which was clearly complete bollox from what they'd said separately. No one goes on this show to meet a new "friend".

Obviously no-one wants to get rejected on camera for the nation to see so the woman tactfully suggesting they be friends can be a kindness (assuming it's not genuine) but you can, so often, see the man's face drop.

Appearing polite with the "you first" tactic is clever, since it allows the person to prepare their response if it doesn't go how they want it to.

Next week is a "special" - First Dates at Christmas. Don't know how it will differ. Did they do this last year? Was it the one where previous couples came back and one guy proposed?

No one wants to be rejected publicly but the point I was trying to get over is that too often they seem to really like each other but want to save face in the final meeting. So there's all this dipping the toe in the water and saying "only as friends" when clearly they are both up for more. Wasted opportunities I think.

BIB through reading facial expressions/general body language. Noticed it first on a couple of First Dates Abroad. When talking to camera without the date in the room they were practically gushing, no ambiguity, they wanted a second date, both of them equally. Once put together and its decision time you can read the "oh crap I could make a tit of myself here" on the face of the first one to speak. So they come out with the friend line, often hesitantly, almost like they're hoping the date will say "oh are you sure, I was hoping for a rematch" . But the date - also understandably not wanting tit like status - goes along with the friend schtick. I blame that Jeremy city boy for making them wary just a shame when u see missed opportunities, I can think of a few myself

I didn't really like either the son or the mum who both went on dates the same night - she made no secret of her distaste looking at the girl he was on a date with, which seemed rude, and he came across as a bit of a knob (and I'm not just talking about that greasy topknot). I have a feeling there was more to the story of why he got dumped by his fiancee than he was making out. He looked rather sneery when he clapped eyes on his mum's date too. Neither really impressed me.

Speaking as a gay guy, it does surprise me how gay so many straight guys seem these days - I would have thought Lee the nervous northern guy was gay for sure until it turned out he was meeting a woman. The maths teacher had a bit of a gay vibe to him too I thought.
