My first thought on seeing Lee, the nervous barber was that he seemed gay! Paul, the maths teacher was a bit guarded, lacking in confidence i.e. not outright macho but I found that endearing - not necessarily a gay characteristic I would have thought.
(Just for the record I find gay men delightful for the most part, entertaining, open, lively and I like that they can be effeminate). I regard myself as androgynous.
