I had a film and two TV shows shot in my home. (I lived in an old pub - oak beams, wattle & daub etc) Is that close enough?

I think the film went straight to DVD though - can't even remember the name.

Loads in Liverpool. Watched them filming The 51st State regularly as well as The Parole Officer, Going Off Big Time, Liam, Swing, Nowhere Boy, Alfie. All those Blockbusters (!)

They filmed parts of The Dark Knight and Captain America in Liverpool, too.

The Dark Knight Rises filmed a few scenes at Wollaton Hall in Nottingham near me.

Not a movie but I was watching the BBC filming a car crash in Nottingham's market square on Sunday for their new series Truckers

Had an episode of the Bill shot in the snooker club I used to work in.
When I say episode I actually mean a scene. Started at 6am and finished at 10am and lasted less than half a minute on the tv

Edit . Sorry I just realised this is a film thread and not a tv one

Brassed Off was filmed near where I grew up. When I asked my dad if he knew Ewan McGregor and Pete Postlethwaite were doing a movie so close to us, he said he had no idea. Ewan must not have been as well known back then. I was too young to know/care, but now I think it's kinda cool.

Kes was filmed just near the house I grew up in. You could cross the road and see the same streets.

Not many films near where I am the most famous being Get Carter but also The Likely Lads film was shot round the corner. Lots of TV programmes though, Spender, Vera, SuperGran, in fact just about anjything shot in the North East, we even had an episode of The Bill shot at the Lighthouse, several years back, think it was called Thug on the Tyne.

A horror film called Shrooms was filmed in a forest down the road from my house in Ireland. The film is set in America so it makes you wonder why they just didn't film it in a forest there...!

They are making a sequel and I believe they are returning to the forest for it.

We live fairly close to a few major film studios, so a lot of the area is used for location filming. The more memorable movies shot in our area were,

The Harry Potter series

James Bond series

Jack Ryan series (including the one currently in post-production)

Four Weddings and a Funeral

Carry On series

Doctor series (Doctor in the House, Doctor in Love; starring Dirk Bogarde, etc.)

Dads' Army

Brief Encounter

Star Wars: The Phantom Menace

Maleficent (again, currently in post-production, starring Angelina Jolie)

.....and many, many more that I am sure I will think of later.

Re: Maleficent, Mrs Dorma and I met Sharlto Copley at a local hotel, whilst out dining with friends. He was absolutley charming and did not mind signing autographs and chatting. He was very intersted in the local sights and history, which is very rich and diverse.

Of course, he stars in probably one my most favourite movies of all time, "District 9" He still beamed with pride at having been a part of it.

There are also countless television programmes that are shot near us, but that might be for another thread.

I think I remember that movie from about five years ago. Wasn't there a group of American students, on holiday in Ireland and one of them eats a mushroom that gives them the power to see into the future?

'Mischief Night' was partly filmed on the street where I lived in Leeds. Everybody on the street had to sign a release to allow them to film there.

Just a few films from the top of my head:

Billy Elliot:

filmed on location in Northumberland, County Durham and Newcastle Upon Tyne.

Elizabeth:

again from locations in County Durham and Northumberland, such as: Durham Cathedral; Alnwick, Bamburgh, Aydon and Raby Castles. And a little further down the road - York Minster.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone

filmed on location at Durham Cathedral and Alnwick Castle.

Get Carter

filmed at Gateshead for that hideous car park (thankfully now demolished); and Newcastle.

I'm sure there will be many more but these films are all I can think of for now.
