..just had a seize up with the CPU fan on my HP G6 laptop causing it to run at idle at 75+ degrees.
Fixed now BUT ...does a 1500 super laptop have the same 10quid fan in it as my cheapo HP...?

No. Just like a cheapo desktop doesn't have the same PSU as my homebuild which just has a decent branded PSU in. It not extortionate, but not cheap crap;.

Probably. I fixed my sticking cheapo Compaq CQ61 fan when only a few weeks old
(I'd already invalidated warranty by breaking the screen)

Fixed the fan with a drop of 3in1.

Thought I was gonna have to replace it, so at least that was a cost saving relief.

Did you get a fan error message on boot-up or did the fan simply stop working?
