Why is it every week without fail, we see the male contestants in their underwear but not the female?

It's safer to show male contestants in their underwear. If they showed female contestants in their underwear, there would be complaints about sexism, and only having women on the show as eye candy etc. I know it's a complete double standard if it's okay to show men in their underwear (especially when there doesn't seem to be any problem with women fawning over people like Myles and Jason); it's another form of sexism, but one that the world accepts for some reason.

Frankly there was absolutely no need for a serious minded show to display to us that scene. It made me feel nauseous.

As for the charge of sexism if hey showed the girls I suspect it might be more to do with the girls refusing to have cameras follow them around the house scantily clad. Whereas I can well imagine the lads ego would allow them to say to the cameramen - bring it on. It wasn't good.

Couldnt you say its only sexist because women in underwear are sexualised to such an extent in the majority of the mass media in a way that men in underwear arent, in the majority of cases, maybe? I'm probably getting cases mixed up, its late haha

I think that either it's sexist to fawn over people in their underwear, or it isn't. Personally I don't think that it is, but I don't think it's fair for it to be sexist for one gender and not for another. I think sexism is a a terrible thing, and obviously as a guy I haven't experienced it on the same level as women have, but I do think accusations of it are taken a little far sometimes. Just because some guys like looking at scantily-clad women, it doesn't mean that they think that that is all that women are good for.

Its totally sexist to depict either gender as 'sex objects'. The men are in their pants, the women are shown fully clothed drying their hair. The standards - they are a double.

Well I'm certainly liking the standards being double then...

Oh my god Myles...put him in a steamy jail cell - that's where he belongs...

He doesn't care because he has a six pack, if he had beerbelly I am not sure how comfortable he'd be to appear on bbc1 in underwear.

I thought I'd contribute to the conversation with an intellectually stimulating discussion that was totally dissimilar to the many other utterly vacuous posts displayed here!
