Apple iPhone 5 build quality...will you buy another iPhone?
Just wondered what everyone else thought about the iPhone 5 build quality? Will you buy another?
Hardware wise I'm ok with it, but the build quality seems very much inferior to the iPhone 4S which I had for ages and didnt keep in a case and looked almost new when I sold it. My iPhone 5 has marks all over it and the metal seems to be made out of some kind of new soft metal that resembles plastic - it marks so easily. I'm also not sure on the screen whether it has the anti greese coating to stop finger prints/....I'm forever wiping mine. If the iOS 7 look is anything to go by, plus the (imo) poorer build quality, I may as well buy an Android phone next time, and if it wasnt for being able to jailbreak mine at time of purchase I would never have had another iPhone. |

My white iPhone 5 is largely unscratched. Seeing the HTC 1's and Samsung s3/S4's in my office of a similar age i think mine is holding up about the same. I agree my 4S which is now what.. 20ish months old looks almost as new as the iPhone 5. I've seen some really dog eared 5's but mostly that daft black bezel though.
As for iOS7 i think after using it for some time now and seeing it is a work in progress + will make far more sense with the next iPhone i am quite happy in the direction it's going. Not seen anything from the competition that makes me want to change yet. If only the next Nokia was Android.. |

My iPhone 5 doesn't have a mark on it. It's been in a case since I got it though.

Sounds like you've made your own mind up already...
I own an iPhone 5 and I can tell you the build quality is fine, i use mine with a silicone case and no screen protector and the screen has no scratches, and is generally in a better condition than my iphone 4 over the same period. In addition my iPhone 5 ended up in a pint of cider (long story) in march, and still works find after a 'drying' period where the lock button stopped responding for 48 hours. So in conclusion, its basically a well built phone. |

The iphone 4 build quality was crap, the home button got sticky on mine after 18 months, and 2 years on my wifes.

The black iPhone 5 is certainly more prone to scuffs then the white model. Or rather it is much more noticeable when the metal parts have been anodised with a black coating.

Otherwise, I'm pretty happy with the build quality of my iPhones - I've had the 3GS, the 4 and now the 5. I think the 3gs had the lesser build quality (but still high by mobile phone standards) but it also had the nicest shape. |

Built quality is fine like most phones.
Few buttons also means there are ess to get stuck, though it happens. As to scratching , phone call and GPS quality etc that surely refects the choice of materials. My cheap plastic ZTE Blade still looks near mint, and being fatter the speaker really booms indoors. |
