This time with music. Trailer here

So excited for another Panzer Dragoon and the best bit is we don't even need Kinect to play it anymore.

What struck me about this trailer is just how beautiful the music is (apparently the same composer of Panzer Dragoon Saga), really outstanding stuff. Such a shame they suffered technical issues at E3 as the trailer is so much better with it.

Wikipedia states "the game features six types of dragons, over 100 skills, and three-player online co-op. Dragons can be leveled up by feeding them food earned during missions." so I guess details are still a bit sketchy.

A new gameplay trailer has just been released at TGS LINK

Looks great. This might be the game to finally dethrone Star Fox 64 and take the crown for best rail shooter ever (imo of course).

Good news! The game is running at 60fps now as seen at the latest playable demo at TGS. Handy because it's pretty important to rail shooters, it makes a big difference.

Here is Part 2 of the weekly TwitchTV stream.

Game is looking very sharp. Incidentally if you buy Crimson Dragon before the end of the year you be gifted a complimentary original "Panzer Dragoon" dragon for free. I hope this game sells as there's not nearly enough rail shooters and I want Panzer Dragoon to live on, same with Star Fox, which I hope we'll see sometime this gen.

Part 3 of the weekly Crimson Dragon stream. Includes first look at Dragon customisation.

If you haven't already seen the 60fps footage of it then you can watch that here

Either stream it if your PC is fast enough or download it and play in media player. It looks beautiful.

Why is there no one more interested in this, its the game that swayed me away from Sony so I'm dying to see how it turns out, hopefully it challenges Panzer Dragoon orta for sheer beauty

I have no idea mate, I asked myself the same question. Not many Panzer Dragoon fans on DS forums I guess?

I'm sat on the fence with this one. i want it to be brilliant, but from what iv'e seen so far i can't say I'm too excited.

At the moment it looks like a game i would pick up in the sales or as an impulse buy when I have a day off.

Good thing it's $20.

It looks like Panzer Dragoon (a rather niche franchise). If you dislike Panzer Dragoon, or if you want something revolutionary, you probably should stay away. It's unlikely that Crimson Dragon will be anything more (or less) than a prettier Panzer Dragoon.

Here is a really well informed and detailed review of Crimson Dragon from Destructoid. LINK

Yes it's the highest scoring review out there by some margin but it is also, out of all that I've read, the only one written by a Panzer Dragoon fan who also understands and appreciates the deeper mechanics of the game.

It does seem a fair review, but its been critically derided almost unanimously which makes me anxious, I still want to play it, but it might be after Day one now as even this review highlights the problems with the controls which is the one thing I can't really overlook

I'm inclined to believe the bad reviews. Panzer Dragoon Orta has a 90 on Metacritic, and I doubt these same critics are biased against rail shooters. Game Informer's review was rather convincing: "I loved the original Panzer Dragoon games, so just to make sure I wasn’t misremembering the quality of the series I went back and sampled the library. I had more fun playing the first levels of Sega’s old shooters than I did with my entire time with Crimson Dragon. Hardcore fans of classic on-rails shooters like Star Fox or Space Harrier might be able to play through this while wearing rose-tinted glasses, but it doesn’t hold a candle to its precursors that came out decades ago." Sometimes you can't recapture the magic.

This, along with Lococylcle is destined to be one of the first titles on the new 'Games with gold' next year.

Its a shame it hasn't reviewed well, but I'll be sure to give it a good go next year if it does become free.

Well this review did state that you should experience no issues with the controls outside of some brief camera problems during free-flight mode.

It's funny but I find most rail shooters have weird controls, and now aiming is done on the right stick I can see how that might upset a few people. I always play games with an inverted vertical camera but when it comes to rail shooters I just can't do that. So that'll be inverted dragon controls coupled with standard aiming. Could get confusing.

So I've played a bit of this game now, my god is it hard. The controls are tough to get used to also. It looks like it's 1080p but the framerate is not 60fps, not sure what happened there as it was seen running at that speed not long ago (with tearing mind you). Put it this way, it doesn't give Orta anything to worry about where that's concerned.

Good news is the game looks like it's got tonnes of depth, lots of dragons to unlocked and a pokemon type leveling up system where they evolve by feeding them items you collect during your playthrough, you can certain tell it's been designed for high scores and repeat play. The brief moments where I did get to grips with it felt really nice, the impulse triggers are tied to the shot button so it's quite satisfying to shoot things. I'll play some more later, first impressions are it's a bit rough and there's no hiding it's 360 roots but I still have high hopes that it will be a really fun game if you can get to grips with it.

Hmmm, I'm really enjoying this now. Very addictive gameplay and tonnes of depth with the loot system, it's pretty grindy but that suits rail shooters just fine IMO, no different to Kid Icarus Uprising in that respect.
