What would happen if someone tried to put the ios7 beta software for the iPhone 5 and put it on the 4S ?

Ignore the other posters. It's ridiculous to think that the iPhone 4S would explode if you put the new software on it.
Anyone who knows what they're talking about would tell you it'll actually IMPLODE. |

Why would anyone do that? There is ios7 beta software for iPhone 4S too.

Absolutely nothing would happen as iTunes wouldn't even open the ISPW, let alone let it be installed on the phone.

It will install fine on the phone but won't activate rendering the phone useless without dfu restore

Nor Xcode or iTunes would allow it so it just wouldn't happen. No reason to either. It will not allow Airdrop
