Not sure if i was just unlucky but i wormed my 16 week old kitten with bob martins spot on 2 in one today and he seems to be really off.
The vet said it's a side effect of Bob martins product which has been known to poison animals. Luckily Sparky isn't poisoned and the vet has given me some syrup stuff to put in his food.
I hate seeing him suffer i just wish i could turn the clock back i would never of bought Bob martins stuff.
He does seem to have perked up after having some food with the syrup.

When you bought the treatment did you inquire as to whether it was suitable for a kitten that age, and were they weighed beforehand to determine the correct dose?

You should never give a kitten an over-the-counter worming treatment. Actually some worming products can be quite toxic even to adult cats. Always take your cat to the vet and have them weighed and use prescription medication from your vet , or buy from the vet receptionist if your cat is already registered with the vet and has a recent weight recorded - anything else can be dangerous.

i checked everything it said suitable for kittens over 12 weeks old and over 1kg in weight.
He weighs just over 1kg. He seems to be on the up he just chased my laser pen light around so hopefully no damage has been done. In future i'll be buying the treatments direct from my vet.

My cat doesn't react well to flea treatment but I get proper stuff from the vets.

Bottom line is, please don't use bob martin stuff, it's like the McDonalds of cat medication. Sorry but it is. There's a reason it's cheaper than going to the vets. It's ****

Sadly the stuff doesn't even work in my experience. So it makes animals sick but doesn't treat the problem you are using it for.

When I first found maisie moo I had no option but too borrow some bob martins wormer from my friend as she was throwing them up. She reacted realy badly too it too it burnt her skin where I put it on her. I never used it since. I would use milbermax or pro fender when the kitten is big enough

There have always been these rumours about Bob Martin products, they pop up on forums regularly.

To be honest, thousands of people use them and it's a minority whose pets have bad reactions to them but you're still far better off with one of the higher end products or something from the vet.

If, as your vet says, they 'poison' animals or have side effects that are that serious I would very much doubt they would legally be on sale over the counter.

He is back to normal thankfully today i checked the spot where i'd applied it and luckily it seems like there's no sign of any burns etc.
He is happily running around like a loon and dive bombing my feet so all is normal lol.
I've heard of a site called petmeds which sell topend treatments. Has anyone used them and are they any good?

Dont beat yourself up over it, ive used shop brought products on my cats loads of times, i personally wouldnt buy them again because of all the bad things ive heard about them but when i got them i honestly thought i was doing something to help not to hurt them, ive heard the bad things about hartz before but only recently have i heard tihngs about bob martins...

personally i use either Bob martin double action, or advantage for fleas.
never had any trouble on the dogs or cats i've treated (they just don't like them being applied)
that product is the only one of theirs that i will use as it contains the same active ingredient as advantage.
(i used flea-clear, which is a frontline copy as well in a pinch, but i don;t trust fipronil to be effective against fleas)

always given tablets for worms, i buy from medicanimal, vet uk and i have used animed direct and viovet too.

all reasonably priced and excellent service.
i actually order my rabbit and guinea pig food from vet uk as it's the cheapest i can find it with free delivery.

they stock drontal worming tablets which are available off prescription and effective against every type of intestinal worm.

Pet food companies are legally allowed to use ingredients that have been banned from the human food chain due to being carcinogenic (cancer causing). It did not come as a surprise when I learned that other pet products are allowed to be sold despite having such serious side effects. I do wish our pets were better protected against those cheap and nasty products. My dog only gets Drontal worming tablets. They do them for cats as well, so you might want to consider that brand in the future.
