Last week I dropped my nearly new Nexus 4 into a half drunk cup of coffee and after three days of drying out in rice, it booted up and worked.....until I charged it up that is. Screen developed vertical lines and much ghosting and now just pale white. Assuming there was coffee residue on the PCB, I armed myself with cotton buds and isopropanol, opened it up and saw that two tiny components had burned out right by the screen connector. Charging it must have heated up the coffee residue or something. Everything else works to my knowledge. Might send it to LG for repair although it will probably cost a fortune.

Yeah i don't think my works 5 would fared so well with me if it wasn't for the Otterbox Defender they gave me.
I invested in a gform case after the locker incident. There's a video of a phone surviving a drop from 100,000ft in one of the cases so it should survive anything I throw at it now

I now have my iPhone 5 (since Friday) and thankfully have not dropped it so far. Am awaiting a very good case (hopefully get it tomorrow) which will deffo protect from falls. It's the ottorbox. Although worried it'll be too hefty for my liking hmmm :\
I dropped my iPhone 3GS a few times which cause cosmetic damage, so decided with iPhone 5 that a case was in order so got an otterbox defender.
Its twice the thickness of the iPhone 5 which is the only downside, the fact that its very secure and the peace of mind it gives more than makes up for the thickness as I don't have to panic if I do drop it.

Been using a Speck case on my iPhone 4 since new and even though I try to be very careful, it has been dropped a few times.

Notably when I was on holiday, I was removing my contract SIM to swap it with a local data sim. I removed the phone from the case and promptly dropped it on the shop floor. It had a tiny dent by the power button, but still worked.

The dent wasn't noticeable when the case was put back on.

You should try a water absorption pack.. I've used one in the past with good success after I had an 'accident' with my phone, they're way better than rice etc. ... It was called Rescuetec. Good luck!
