If anyone is interested in watching it, the new BBC comedy Kara is guest starring in which was previously called 'Woody', is now called 'The Sun Trap' and is on in May.

Kayvan Novak talked about it briefly on Sunday Brunch and said it was a bit like Magnum, which I used to love , so I'll give it a go

I know what you mean. I'm hoping Kara's new play will be something good. It's a shame she's not in the new production of The Importance of being Earnest (with David Suchet as Lady Bracknell) as I think she said once Gwendolen is her dream role and I think she'd be great in it ”

Hi is Kara doing a new play in London again this year?

What is the Bunker in Essex? Is Let's be Evil a film (filmed out in LA)?

She told one of the reporters on the red carpet at the Baftas that she was doing more theatre this year, but no other details, so not sure if it will be the West End but I hope so

Lets be Evil is a film they filmed at Kelvedon Hatch secret nuclear bunker in Essex (they filmed part of it at the end of last yr and then filmed for one more week in March). I don't think they filmed any of it in LA, Kara just met up with Eliott Langridge and a couple of the ladies who did hair and make-up on the film while she was out there.

DWTS week 4: dances (scroll down). Patti and Artem danced a charlestonesque Jazz. I thought she did pretty well and it was entertaining. I read that next week they have a waltz.

In a change to the plan there will not now be a switch up week. Artem would most likely have switched to Rumer who is very good, so it's a shame on that score, but I loathed the burlesque he was assigned last time, so maybe it's for the best if they were planning on horrible dance styles again...

Patti still seems very popular with the audience, but there are only a couple of people left who I'd imagine she could continue past. After that, I think she'd be there at the expense of significantly better dancers (or Noah who captures the inspirational/emotional vote, I would think), and people might start to resent her.

Thanks, Ellie. Will try and watch. Might need a reminder nearer the time...

I'm dipping into it, but I don't think there's been a week where I've watched everything. They are so very excitable, aren't they?

I don't like all the extra dancers everywhere - sometimes I can barely spot the couple I fear Strictly is heading that way though ”

A few years ago there were a some things I preferred in the American show, especially in the Latin dances. They had better camerawork and lighting and I think the celebs were (are) less inhibited, but I always preferred ballroom on Strictly. DWTS has gone way too hyper-hyper on every front these days and lacks any light and shade. Everything is dialled up to 11 and it's more exhausting than enjoyable some of the time.
It doesn't matter to me too much, though . I watch it for Artem and to see some dancing, but I don't care about it in the same way as Strictly. I agree SCD is heading in the same direction and adding 'excess' for the sake of it, which is worrying.

One thing I would pinch is live access to rehearsals... oh, and the fact that Dwts doesn't do the cringey comedy vts (plus the lighting and camera work from a few years ago ).

It seems Len thinks Dwts is too performance driven, too.

When they even added extra dancers in Brendan and Sunetra's rhumba was when I thought it was getting ridiculous. I don't know one person that likes the extra dancers - knowing the BBC that means they'll add more next series

Completely agree about the painful comedy VTs. I expect its a big plus for Artem in his move to DWTS that he will probably never have to dress up as a giant pumpkin again

I don't often say this, but I completely agree with Len

Patti an Artem: week 5 rehearsal.
I've only watched the first 10 minutes or so. Will try and watch later and post anything interesting. They're doing a Waltz to When You Wish Upon a Star.

hi Fridgy, thank you for the link.
Lovely to see Artem and partner leading the troupe. His rightful position IMO, thought he looked little tzar like.
Glad to see someone posting, all a bit quiet on Kara. I was afraid the thread would drop off the page.

All well in Bretagne. had glorious weather for my mother's visit last week. Vegetables in garden including newly planted asparagus going great guns, waiting for the deer/mole/slug attacks. We are pricing very tall fence materials this week so hopefully that will solve one problem..

Slightly random article on the lighting in Kara's latest film, but there are a few backstage photos (I'm pretty sure the one they've labelled as Kara is actually Elizabeth Morris and the one labelled 'capturing the shot' is Kara). It looks quite interesting and different from what she's done before, although she does seem to end up filming in claustrophobic places - first a train carriage now a windowless bunker .

Had a Saturday of 'culture' in London. This is not really a Kara-related post although I did walk by the Garrick Theatre and passed the side street on which Cafe Koha is located. Saw an exhibition at Tate Modern and in the afternoon went to see 'Beautiful', the Carole King inspired musical. Would highly recommend 'Beautiful' to anyone of a certain age who is/was a fan of Carole King's music (Tapestry but also all the songs she and Jerry Goffin co-wrote). Remarkable performance by Katie Brayben and definitely deserving of the Olivier. Hoping for news soon of a West End appearance by Kara that might serve as an occasion for a reunion .

A couple of troupe numbers featuring Artem from Monday's era themed show
30s swing

90s tango

The remaining couples have trio dances next week. Might Artem be joining Val and Rumer for a spot of paso?

Someone posted a list on the ABC site that said V & R were doing their trio with Peta, but I guess Val could have changed his mind.

Yes, I'd read that too. (Artem might just have been offering his opinion, but I hope they've had a change of plan. The trios are usually fun).

Apparently Peta has said now that there has been a 'character change' and she's not in it anymore, so it probably is Artem. Hopefully they'll be wearing a bit more than Val was on the special the other night (what were those sock suspenders about ?)

Oh, my eyes that was...er, quite something wasn't it?! . Val's in better shape these days than when he originally danced in his speedos with Kelly! (I think the sock suspenders were to take the outfit into 'formal wear' for the anniversary show )

Ha ha, it brought me out of lurkdom, only on DWTS!! Artem looked to be enjoying himself with Patti again. Glad he gets another shot with Rumer and Val.

Artem-Rumer-Val paso trio. (Bottom of the page)

Thanks Fridgesoup

I didn't really enjoy that as much as I was expecting to When I read they'd got 40 I thought it would be 'wow', but the choreography seemed a bit uninspired with a lot of wandering around and I still find Rumer's feet and legs a bit odd at times. I think having the troupe all over everything every other week has diluted the effect of the trio dances a bit. Artem is always great in a paso, but I think the dance might have had a different, more interesting dynamic if it had been Peta and it might have made Rumer up her game even more. Obviously I'm out on my own on this one though as it got 40 anyway

Fair comment Ellie . I liked it because it was simple and quiet. I think all the usual crash, bang, wallop has made me long for basic...

(I think the perfect scores and Val's moments of reflection were all just part of their redemption arc after last week's storylines and would have happened almost regardless ).
