I like Korky's idea of no mike. Reckon I'd hear him up here just fine!

Can I join with Wrenny to say how good it is to see you still posting?

Here's my views.
Ashley & Ola It was so PINK my steam TV couldn't cope. This rather distracted from the dance. My son rather liked it however
Tony Oh dear.
Susanna & Kevin The jive is a fave of mine and this didn't disappoint. I thought there was a lot of choreography there for a first week, executed well save the ending. Really liking Kevin. He's like a shaken bottle of pop.
Sophie & Brendan Hated the dress. Too short and showcased her tattoo....WHY??? Nice lines though. She was better than I expected.
Mark Wasn't sure about wardrobe dressing him as a sparkly Ninja Turtle (with the mask) and I'd be lying if I said it didn't detract from an interesting concept that was nicely danced.
Natalie & OoompahLoompah (thanks Denburn) Oh me. Not WarDrobe's (thanks Fridgey finest moment was it? The red and ORANGE clashed but the TV coped better than the with the pink. It was a difficult set of steps well presented. Natalie didn't disappoint and I look forward to her getting better. I worry for Artem on so many levels....

Tonight's show I enjoyed less as the general standard of dancing was lower.

Ben, Dave & Vanessa & JulienAbout what I expected to be honest. Except Janette - I enjoyed her dancing. First impressions can be wrong.
Deborah I enjoyed this as Robin didn't do either the 'camp' thing he usually dishes up for his celeb or the jerky, acrobatic stuff he does with Kristina. Going to enjoy this partnership develop.
Patrick This jive was never going to do it because of the music chosen. Didn't like the choreo or the execution. Mr OrkneySarah thought there should have been more kicks and flicks - he has more left legs than a centipede so that was NOT a compliment.
Fiona Anton has gone up in my estimation. The choreo was pleasing and he is is a dreamy ballroom dancer.
Rachel My baby's fave as he's an ardent Countdown fan. Delighted and surprised at the chemistry with Pasha, I didn't think he had it in him. She seemed unconfident during the build up therefore didn't expect much in terms of content - WOW!!! That was a difficult routine well-danced.
Abbey Unbelievably difficult choreography again danced believably. I really warmed to Abbey and to Aljaz too.

After the first few car crash routines I think this might be a good season. *whispers "Artem might not be my favorite this time" ”

Agree with most of this
I too was not expecting to like Abbey at all, but thought she came over well and Aljaz is a lovely dancer and seems like a nice guy too.
What are your worries for Artem?
Hope he doesn't try any crazy lifts, we know what happened with waif like Kara.

I cannot start to describe Mister BV's reaction, but pretty it wasn't

Sorry for cutting this post short, OS, but this made me laugh out loud

I was surprised to hear so many already and quite recently used songs were used again tonight: Artem's and Holly's jive song , Aliona's and Harry's Chachacha and Natalie's and Ricky's waltz. And ... all were better danced to the first time round, even Harry's Chachacha which was also his debut if I'm not mistaken.

Good night all

totally agree with you on this. I really think there should be more of a time lag before songs are reused. (And I know I am biased but Artems choreography to the Bruno Mars track was far better and I loved the styling for it too...although it does bring back bad memories of poor Artems injury)

My turn to totally agree with you on this one, Tipi!

Plus, I think that if we would go back to reading the overall comments after previous first shows, things would be about the same. I think we mostly remember the good ones that last until the end and very easily forget the not-so-good-ones that almost always disappear in the early episodes. Although the chance remains for Julien to pull off a Russell Grant

I really enjoyed both shows this weekend. I'm with Darcey and Bruno, I absolutely loved Hairy Dave and can't wait to see what he does next week In fact I'm looking forward to seeing them all dance again tbh. Being a lady of leisure obviously agrees with me

Hated Artem's choice of song so didn't really enjoy the dance as a result, but Natalie looks like she'll be good. I'm looking forward to seeing them do "ballroom".

I always find the first couple of shows a bit flat. I think the anticipation and the most recent memories being of the high standard contestants reach by the final of the previous series.

Stick with it, we'll all be sucked in before we know it

I do wonder if he chose it though...there were a lot of songs obviously chosen to suit the couple...Money, money money for Deborah, Vogue for Julian etc...I wonder if the production team chose them - it wouldn't be the first time!

Overall I enjoyed both shows and I like most of the celebs
(but I may have to mute the tv for Julian !)

I've never 'had the faith' to protect or keep. That's my point. I adore Kartem but even then I know it's not 'real' For me the show is all a glittering, campy, cringey nonsense...but I love it because of all of you! I'm with Strictly as long as there is life in this thread.

Just reading your comments about last night before I dash off to watch it. Last night went to see Ben Haggarty (Crick Crack Club) - fantastic storyteller - 'perform' the Gilgamesh myth...brilliant.

Hilarious and astute observations, OS. I think this is going to be a good season too.

I too am worried for Arty on the levels available.

Did anyone else feel the old deja vu at the start of Natem's dance, a bit Kartem Cha Cha Cha but with kiddy disco soundtrack and kiddy Cossack PJs? Just me?

Mute is my Strictly friend...I rarely hear a word Bruce says...can add Jools to the list.

Wise words mate. Let's not forget none of these people either dance every day or at all and I think the first dances are pretty much what you could hope to expect.

What I do (seriously) like about Strictly is seeing the effort and progression. I don't really want to see everyone be great and only get a wee bit better.

I'm sure, as soon as they had their confirmed list of slebs, production had a meeting lasting minutes to work out how best to 'introduce' them. I thought their groan-worthy song choices (along with some of the scene setting props) had all the integrity and depth of a year six end of term review. Hopefully they've got all that out of their system and the pros will get a bit more say in the matter. Hopefully .

I thought there was some similarity with the Kartem char, too. Cossack PJs! Perfect. (Outside, Alli-F said he was wearing Where's Wally socks! )

BIB - not sure the mute button is enough. I physically recoiled and tried to get deeper into the sofa when he was shouting and I had to put a cushion over my face for protection

OS - I now have a great image of you up in the wilderness watching your steam TV throwing toxic pink glare back at you spotting Strictly side boob with a spotty teen*

*apologies to said teen if not spotty.

Now there's free voting online (not sure how many votes...), is anyone tempted to vote tactically early on? I'm thinking, who would I like to stay from Tony and Julien? Hmmmm .

ETA - but then there's lovely Dave...

PS Tipi, it seems you can vote from Ireland, too. I imagine that means BV will also be able to vote. Yay!

Awww. BUT, has Artem's teeth gone nuclear this series? Blinding (and not in a good way). No wonder the Beeb are taking the pee.

Afternoon. Have just finished watching the Friday show again. Here are my thoughts on the couples.

Ashley and Ola – I already knew of him as OH watches is Hollyhocks (as he likes to call it). Being first out for the whole show must always be hard, but I thought he did pretty well. Ola tended to dance around him quite a bit (as she often does). I could see quite a few recognisable Cha Cha steps in there, but I’m not sure what the weird funky side by side bit was in the middle of the dance. A bit ugly that. Over all a good start. I hope she’s able to make the most of his talent. I’m looking forward to seeing his ballroom.

Tony and Aliona – Considering his first steps training, this could have been a lot worse. His hands were surprisingly good but, bless, you could see him counting through it and it was a bit stumbling. I wont be surprised to see him as the first to leave.

Mark and Iveta – I really enjoyed the performance of this routine. It was great story telling. I wish we could have seen their feet more but what I could see seemed fine. Latin could be er……interesting!

Suzanna and Kevin – Lots of content but he tended to out dance her throughout it all. Great armography in the middle of the routine. A good effort on a difficult first dance. She could be decent at Latin and Ballroom so should still be around towards the end of the series.

Sophie and Brendan – It was ok. To be honest, I zoned out through it. She didn’t keep her frame very well through the dance but overall it was quite elegant.

Natalie and Artem – My OH could use Artem in his next woodwork commission!!! Talk about Mahogany!!! I really enjoyed this dance more on the second showing. Natalie danced it well. I think I could see what the judges meant by more hip action needed, but it’s good she’s got things to work on I think. Her arms were great! Overall it was a great dance, but I felt beat wise, they were having to shoe horn the moves to fit the music and so for me, it didn’t flow as well as it could have. Loving their chemistry on the dance floor so far. Intruiged to find out how her Ballroom is going to be.

Right. I’m going to go and watch last nights show again.

Thanks for your review Wren .

I'm afraid I didn't enjoy Ashley's CCC and thought Ola let him down with the choreo. Also found it mincey and floppity of leg and arm. His ballroom could be good though.

Tony - much better than expected and his arms and hands were lovely. Very sweet so a shame he went wrong. Craig was cruel . Aliona looked beautiful.

Mark - I agree about not seeing his footwork - camera work was tragic. He's likeable. Tango was okay

Susanna - surprised me with how much welly and performance she put in to it. Kevin could have helped her by dancing down a little, but I like him (and her).

Sophie - pretty (girl, dance and dress - apart from tattoo) but a bit fragile. It was very slow and careful, but I like her. Brendan going all goo-goo and 'I love this girl' again . Yeah, till you get tired of them .

Natalie - think it's all been said. Good. (Too much fringe on her and well, might be time to draw a line under The Outfit )
