The Perfect "Next Doctor"...Will Be In A Completely Different Show

It is the popular question among Doctor Who fans these days: Which British actor should play the Doctor after Matt Smith leaves? On the basis of what I see in the trailer for the new American series Sleepy Hollow, I can't think of anybody better suited for the role of the Doctor than Tom Mison. But of course Mison already has a job -- the role of Ichabod Crane. The Sleepy Hollow trailer is below, and I would be interested to hear if people agree or disagree with my belief that Mison would be fantastic as the Doctor.

I've not heard of that before, but loved that trailer, though I wonder if they were all the best bits? Still, I'd love to see it. I hope it's on over here.

And, yes, Tom Mison seems quite Doctorish.

There's no such thing as the 'perfect' Doctor. Every one is unique.

After all the recent discussions about who the next Doctor will be I don't think there is one perfect doctor but a number of exciting possibilities or could have beens just as Tom Mison certain being one.

I am not wedded to that particular word, if you have a problem with it. I simply meant Mison would be the actor I would want to see get the Doctor role now, given how wonderfully "Doctor-ish" he comes across in the Sleepy Hollow trailer -- like I said, if he were available, which he isn't.

You're perfect Doctor is someone else's nightmare.

*Not a comment on your choice, just the inane arguing that goes on in here

Not really, just making a point. Should have added a to my comment.

Oh, it will definitely be shown in the UK. I have read that Sky, Channel 4, Channel 5, and UKTV are all interested in it. The show will end up with the highest bidder. One might think that would automatically mean Sky will get it, but Sky won't go crazy with their bidding if they succeed in acquiring other new US shows they are targeting, like The Blacklist, which is reportedly the desired object in a bidding war among UK broadcasters right now. I'm going to link to a trailer for The Blacklist just because I have thought, on more than one occasion, that James Spader would be great as the Doctor, if not for the fact that he isn't British. Or perhaps he would be even better as the Master.

Thanks for that.

I'll cross my fingers for Channel 4 or 5 then.

I've always liked James Spader, but I don't see him as the Doctor - I agree he is more Masterish.

humm I give that show one season. I didn't really find him that convincing. The role he is playing is somewhat Doctorish a displaced outsider a step ahead of everyone else. Like hugh laurie in House and Peter falk in Columbo. But essentially what I term a boy band Doctor. style over gravitas.

Matt Smith is the "boy band Doctor," clearly. Mison has gravitas to spare.

I'm not seeing it. Plus I'd rather someone less posh after Matt Smith, another Christopher Eccleston type.

As soon as I saw Mison in Sleepy Hollow I thought the interpretation would have slotted in perfectly to Doctor Who. Its an inspired performance. Its a shame he's had to go to the US to get a good role but good for him. The show has already been picked up for a second season after only 3 episodes. Its a hard role to pull off and he's done it with style.
