Are Apple now crumbling? Slow Iphone 5 sales, IOS7 looks to be a disaster, software hiccups like maps, cheap Iphones in the pipeline and Iwatches. I don't remember much of the 90's era but I remember some Macintoshes being very uncool. Many compare this IOS7 to the cheap macs of the 90's with the blue colours round the screen.

Other things I notice is Apple seem less focused on Apps. New releases are slow and any that come are "free" and cost many more ££ with upgrades and in app purchases.

As for the latest OS I do wonder what designers are thinking these days. Even mobile sites like the guardian and here are poor, lack detail and are quite basic. I hope people don't embrace this change like the cheap flash websites of the early 00's. But that's going slightly off topic. Apple today seem lacking ideas and the approach Tim Cook takes is to copy other products rather than create a new market. Will Apple still top sales in future years?

The thing about Steve Jobs was that he wouldn't release something that was crap.

Unfortunately the new regime don't have the same work ethic. They just want to realise new stuff whatever the quality and hope people buy it.

I don't think he would have released Siri as "beta" or churned out maps a year too early. I'm sure I read the Ibooks store was rushed when it launched but atleast it looked half decent. I mean even the Ipod touch has had the camera removed to drop the price down.

To me it seems Apple want to refocus on cheap products. More products will see the main flagship product lose it's appeal for me.

Needs a major design change for S5 though. That curved design is a bit old now plus how much larger will they make the screen?

They really should focus more on the design and software.

I remember when Falmer jeans were the no. 1 fashion item, and I remember that week a few years ago when Franz Ferdinand were THE band in the UK. I wonder if in 10 years time we will say the same about iPhone?

I have absolutely no idea what you mean about Siri being released as beta

Certainly the headstrong days are gone. The 'my way or the highway' attitude. I remember the days when 3.5" screens where the perfect size and any other phones with bigger screens were called ridiculous. Or when an iPad mini was laughed at... "you'd need to sandpaper your fingers" to use it. When any device below retina display was scorned. His obsession with android stealing his ideas despite him saying "...good artists copy, great artists steal. And we have always been shameless about stealing great ideas". He wasn't always right you know!

Apple's critical flaw is that it focuses on so few items - items that are especially vulnerable to the whims of fashion - that they only need one to spectacularly fail to bring down the company.

Samsung makes so many different things that they're impervious to fashion.

Jobs' biggest asset was that he generated a cult like quasi-religious following.

I think you'll find he had a lot of input into the iPhone 4S and 5.
It's only a rumour that cheap phones are on the way, those rumours have been around for years. People used to refer to it as the iPhone nano.

Well, if you say so, it surely must be true. After all, such a well reasoned and informative post must be true!!!!!!!!

Oh Apple, I only bought the iPhone 5 because I'm a fanboi.

Hopefully they're a little more inventive in the future because the extra half-inch isn't pleasing anyone. If it were a penis pump, maybe. As a phone, nah.

People seem to forget that the galaxy s4 was released around March/April? Of course it's going to have better specs than something released 6 months prior.

Jobs' death coincided with the end of the golden era for Apple. He saw the danger of Android thus wanting to go thermonuclear on it. Apple with its niche premium strategy can only work well on a new market, where they bring a new exciting product before other manufacturers catch up. iPhone was not some miraculous product, it was just ahead of the competition. Android needed some time to grow up and now it can easily compete with iPhone. Gone Apple's dominant position. The same is happening with tablets. New market, huge profits for Apple, competition catching up. Apple needs a new product if they want to keep their profits.

I remember when a 3.5 inch phone outsold all other phones apart from the iPhone 5, it was Q1 2013, oh how things change

IOS7 looks to be a disaster,
In your opinion of coarse.
Yet according to the poll in the other thread 53% of the votes were in favour of iOS7 with only 20% that said no.
I'm sure I'm not the only one who shares this opinion, but all these threads you keep creating banging on about the same thing over and over is getting a bit repetative and your making yourself look stupid.
Come on now Please Stop.

I preferred the 3210, which was actually a lot more popular

Even 11 years ago when I got one, the 3310 (which was first available in 2000) was free on many tariffs - that plus you could hammer nails in with it helped make it successful as opposed to any iphone-like "must have" factor...

I don't remember much of the 90's era but I remember some Macintoshes being very uncool. Many compare this IOS7 to the cheap macs of the 90's with the blue colours round the screen.
Eh?
