Suitable mobile for people of a certain age
My Mum has recently decided that she wants a mobile phone. She's pushing 70 and knows nothing about phones. Her requirements are:
- Pay as you go - Able to take photos - £200 max, preferably less - Easy to use [by the standards of a 70-year-old techno-neophyte] - Suitable for use by someone whose sight and motor control is fine for her age, but who is no longer a teenager - Not an "old person's phone" Can anyone suggest anything? I know little about phones and would appreciate some guidance. I've had a quick look in phones for you and everything seems to be either too small or too expensive. Any suggestions will be gratefully received! |

Well the Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 is a nice phone it's easy to use with a decent camera and 3.8 inch screen which is very clear. It's about £150 more or less.

How about an HTC Windows Phone?

I would say a Windows Phone. I do use one myself (alongside an iPhone) but I honestly think they work well for older people, that view is based on my very non-technical parents using them and enjoying using them. An iPhone could also be ok (but smaller touch targets) but out of your price range.
You can now get an HTC 8X for about £240. With the large tiles and minimalist UI, it will be easy for her to see things on screen and press the buttons. Also the app list is just one long list, quite straightforward. Could be nice alongside a touchscreen computer running Windows 8.1 - familiar, simple interface. |

Nokia Lumia 520, 620, 720, ranging from £140 - £240 at Amazon ATM. The advantage for older person is the tiles are bigger targets to touch. WP8 has a simple UI to use.
