Internet Data: Blackberry v Sony Xperia Z: Can anyone help with the answer to this?
Hi there
I am currently with 02, using a Blackberry Bold 9900. I only have 100mb data limit per month with O2. I know this is small - but - on my Blackberry, despite looking at Facebook/BBC News and a couple of forum sites like this very regularly and indeed uploading quite a few photo's to Facebook, my internet data usage with O2 never seems to exceed more than about 2 percent!!!! At the end of the billing period, their Data Calculator tells me that I still have around 99 percent remaining! I didn't believe this (not that I do any streaming online or anything like that) so I rang O2 who informed me that this was correct! Partly, I am advised, the reason I hardly seem to use anything, is because Blackberry compress data so a Blackberry, going through their servers, will not use as much as other phones? Is there any truth in this? As part of a Sony promotion, I am getting, very shortly a free Sony Xperia Z smartphone. My worry is this: Will this new phone use more data than my Blackberry if I keep my same internet habits? Just to re-iterate I use Facebook many times per day, upload a few piccy's each day and check a couple of forums and BBC News/Weather.... So, I don't do any streaming (You Tube/radio listening etc) as I know this will eat into the data. If anyone can help with this, I'd be really grateful! Cheers Paul |

With Blacberry, if you have BIS then your actual data is unlimited - the 100mb that o2 give you is for data usage that goes through their own APN and not the Blackberry network, that's why you always have 99% left despite all your usage.
Changing from BIS to a normal data service will see your data increase, 750mb is probably the min you could get away with. |

...actually just spoken to O2 about this very matter and they claim it ALL comes off their data allowance!
It can't do though, as I've still got 99 percent of my 100mb left and I've used the internet an awful lot since my billing period started on 08 of this month!!!
