If you could create your own DVD box set, of classic Who, nu-Who or both, what stories/episodes would you include?

For me personally, I'd create a Cybermen box set, which would include every Cybermen story ever (The Wheel in Space would have to be mostly animated though). I did consider suggesting the same for the Daleks, but there are so many Dalek stories, many of which are missing, that maybe they should be split into a few box sets instead.

Post your ideas too.

Definitely the Sarah Jane box set, which would mix classic and new Who (I don't know if that's allowed!).

Time Warrior
Invasion of the Dinosaurs (a personal favourite)
Robot
Terror of the Zygons or Brain of Morbius
Hand of Fear
School Reunion
I didn't pick Genesis of the Daleks because although its brilliant, its more about the Daleks than Sarah Jane. I also didn't pick Planet of the Spiders because, apart from the regeneration, its actually quite tedious.

The box set would include a feature that would include extracts from K-9 and Company, The Five Doctors and the Sarah Jane Adventures and give an over view of her entire life and travels with the Doctor.

A River Song Box Set.

But the episodes are in chronological order for River (just to confuse any new viewers ).

I'm not entirely sure that's possible.

You'd have to have some episodes twice. Or more.

(This would also be my choice as a box set).

Complete 7 would be excellent.

A Silurian box set might be nice.
- Doctor Who and the Silurians
- Warriors of The Deep
-Hungery Earth/Cold Blood
- Good Man Goes to War
- Dinosaurs on a space ship

With Docos about the evolving look, where in time they are from etc

You could re-edit them to present them in River's chronological order. I suppose that would heresy to some...

But they did have a segment of one of the "Confidentials" that did just that, with River narrating. I was disappointed that it didn't appear as an extra on that season's DVD/BD box set.

As we're now very nearly at the end of River's story, if not already past (and they could still have a pre-library or pre TNotD River turn up in the 50th or Christmas specials, or even with 12) they could do the same for her complete (?) tale.

They've not really delved into the Doctor's feelings, knowing the fate that has befallen / will befall River. How could he knowingly let her go the library? Surely there's a story worth telling, right there?

It couldn't happen. Anyway, it would cost thousands of pounds to produce and would be too expensive.

Plus it would take years to produce, as the remastering and re-animating would take a while.

Also, there is the artwork for the set to think about, so no. It definately could NOT happen, now or ever.

No Doctor Who fan would part with thousands of pounds to get this.

A bit of a silly comment, really, wasn't it?

The feature would have to include clips of her in The Stolen Earth too.

Also, as extras, two two part SJA stories 'The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith' and 'Death of the Doctor', featuring David Tenant, Matt Smith and Katy Manning.

I'm not sure about no doctor who fan spending thousands of pounds on it. There are some pretty serious collectors out there.

However, I do agree that releasing every episode in one box set would be too much and too illogical (the set itself would be enormous, never mind the cost to produce).

I did have an idea though, that maybe they could release firstly box sets for each of the classic seasons, so as to get all episodes of that season in one set as with the new series box sets. And then maybe they could produce collections for each Doctor - like a case containing all of that respective Doctor's season box sets, or something. The case would have that Doctor's face on the front, and maybe their Doctor number (maybe 8 could be included with 7 as he just has the Movie and 7 was briefly in that). They could be limited edition, and would be good for collectors or even new fans/fans that don't own the classic series on DVD. The most that would be in one box would be Tom Baker's seven seasons, and with the prospect of a series 1-7 DVD set possibly coming out soon for the new series (perhaps after Matt's regeneration), it doesn't seem too farfetched.

On a side note, I just rewatched The Angels Take Manhattan, and besides making me cry at the end again, it gave me the idea of an Angels box set. Since I have a feeling they won't be returning for a while, it might be cool to have a box set with all their episodes on. Obviously for collectors, it could be an Amazon exclusive or something, like they did with the Daleks and Cybermen. It would include:
- Blink
- The Time of Angels/Flesh and Stone
- The Angels Take Manhattan
Really they could just make this one disc and it'd be like the series volumes they used to do.

Finally, for everyone suggesting a Series 7 box set, this has been confirmed to be coming later this year, probably in autumn. It will contain Asylum of the Daleks through to The Name of the Doctor (including The Snowmen).

Not that silly or unthinkable.

Prisoner had 692 episodes which isn't that far behind DW.

The box set is an amazing thing and the quality is great. It cost about £750 in 2006 including shipping and packaging from Australia.

Rereleased twice as well as individual DVDs in Aus and the UK.

A box set for classic Newbies

When ever a newbie asks ' I want to start my collection so what classics should I buy' just point them towards the 'Newbie Box Set'.

It would feature a story from each of the classic Doctors based on the endless top 10 lists on the internet.

Or.

A box set that features the worst of Doctor Who, all together at last in one set.....hang on...damn its already been done.

Why does it have to be remastered and re animated if the work has already been done for a lot of episodes? A bit of a silly comment, really, wasn't it? Fans spend thousands of pounds on individual releases so why can't they spend it on one release? It would probably be cheaper to buy a box set with all the episodes than buy individual release. As for the artwork it could have all the doctors on it. By the way it wasn't a serious suggestion.

I think a box set with all episodes available is a good idea. While I agree it would be an expensive one-off buy, it would surely be a lot cheaper than buying all the individual stories in their present releases as they are today. And would take up far less space.

Perhaps a more realistic option would be for season boxed sets. It is the way most TV series are released. Once they're all out, someone would box them all together and sell them as one.

I've been holding off collecting classic Doctor Who (except for the "Lost in Time" collection and the forthcoming Blu Ray of "Spearhead from Space") to avoid double dipping.

I would start here.
http://www.geeksofdoom.com/2011/04/1...h-checking-out

Yes each Doctor has other episodes that are just as good but you cant go wrong with these. Others will have personal faves, including myself but if you stick to a list like this then expand from there using other top 10 lists you'll find you wont waste your money on buying the stinkers first and risk being put off on a certain Doctor based on a poor episode.

You will find that give or take, most lists will roughly be the same so they are a surefire place to start.

Apologies everyone, no intention of diverting the thread
