The main one seems to be the fact it's not made using glass of aluminium like some competing devices.
Some people also dislike the TouchWiz UI that Samsung apply to Android. The price could also be seen as a downside but that's exceedingly subjective and will vary a great deal depending on your views, needs and even your choice of network. Of course your partner may not care about those points. Best bet would be for them to head to a phone shop and try out various handsets before making a decision. |

No radio on the S4. May not be a deal breaker, but something to note as radio (non wifi / streaming) has been a pretty standard inclusion on Samsung Galaxy phones.

Some say it's a little big, a bit laggy and a bit plasticy.
However I think there pretty good. HTC one as an alternative maybe? as long as you get one that's not falling apart on the bezel front, iPhone 5? may be a bit meh, or there's always a Sony what ever it's called, they're quite good... but yeah, get the Samsung - it'll be fine |

Is that even a con though? Makes it lighter and can withstand impact better without marking.

Apparently, according to most reviews which confuse 'build quality' and 'choice of materials'.

That pretty much just leaves GSMArena then, from what I've seen

LOL I know from reading reviews the build of the S4 sounded really bad but after actually holding one and seeing one up close I thought it was really nice to hold and in no way cheap and cheerful as many reviews seem to make out.
The htc does seem to have premium materials and good build quality too. |

Honestly, Google "HTC One build quality", there's tons of stuff out there. |

'bit lame maybe but the UK/US version with the Snapdragon 600 doesn't support FM radio whereas the overseas version with Exynos octacore does do FM radio. Personally, I'm happy with 3G speeds for things I do on my phone so don't care that the Exynos doesn't do 4G. The choice would have been nice. I have android 4.2.2 running on the S2 anyway so the extra "features" of S4 aren't things I'll really miss anyway, and most of them are mod-able if I do want them. |

Materials are undoubtedly cheaper on the s4 but the actual putting together if those materials is top dollar.....

I've been using it since it was launched. The only 'con' for me that makes me think 'this was/ is so much better on the 'i' devices' is that streaming music over Bluetooth isn't, IMO, great, which is a big part of what I do with it. The phone doesn't auto connect to a sync'd device when in range - you have to manually connect it each time - and when you disconnect, the phone sometimes has a horrible habit of sending the track back to the beginning. Now I may be the only person in the world this bothers, but for me, after using an iPhone, it's a negative, however, things like the removable rear cover and battery, SD card storage and ability to actually access the filesystem far outweigh this though, so I can live with it. Maybe it's because I got it on a free upgrade, but build quality doesn't and hasn't concerned me (maybe if I'd spent several hundred quid I'd think differently) and I didn't even notice it doesn't have a radio.

I don't have any issues via Bluetooth.....coud it be the device your streaming to that's not fully compatible as the s4 has a high version of the BT spec?
