YAWWWWN, who gives a shit? Nothing worthy of note makes these silly lists anyway. It's just a list of the most overrated crud in recent years!

Where's all the great and interesting material out there? No we just get MOR pap appearing on such lists, very sad, it shows no one cares about great music, only what they get fed.

What is it with posters who not only open a thread on a subject they are not interested in but then go onto post in it to inform readers of their disinterest? Bizarre. But funny.

I don't own any of those.

I'm not surprised that Progress is so high. I've considered buying it a few times and it's always so cheap on Amazon, like £1.20 brand new and delivered, and it's been that sort of price for ages. It was also £1 on Black Friday and I saw a load in a pound shop a while back. I wonder why it's so cheap everywhere?

I think Progress is rather high because many people thought it would be a one-off (what with Take That a five-piece again).

I can't speak for anyone else but imo the number of threads in here about who is shifting the most units/has most power etc is beyond ridiculous.

Oh stop whining

Most of the albms i assume your reffering to are either way before the advent of internet shopping hit it's peak and have sold a millions across the years so no real market for purchase.

I used to think it was Thatcher's children's understanding of pop music, i.e. that it is just a business. But I think it is also the way the X Factor generation understand pop music, as big numbers being dramatically flashed up on screens and that's all that matters.

You are right there is little understanding or discussion of the cultural or social value of what is supposed to be an art form.
Adele must be good because she does big numbers.

Its all about trying to prove who's *fave* (usually female artist) is the BEST EVER!
Insecure fans can't just enjoy the music

It's good that they are mostly all British artists. I'm sure the lsit from itunes would have a lot more American artists.

why would the ITunes one have more American artists? Do Amazon not sell American artists?

Yes, I agree with both of you. There's no cultural appreciation & too many fans self esteem seems to be totally dependent on their 'fave' being the 'best' ie sold more. This obviously makes the fan 'RIGHT'.

My current favourite band has probably sold maybe four albums in the UK all year* (all bought by me ) & I honestly don't give a shit.

*possibly a slight exaggeration but you know what I mean

Only decent record on there is Back to Black imo, not a massively surprising list though.

I own copies of 19 and 21, and Back to Black but I think the rest are absolute shite. Especially the dreaded Mumford & Sons who make me want to slit my own wrists.

Like someone else rightfully said, these lists are not about interesting music but safe, populist drivel that for a large part people have been conditioned into liking.

Edit - just seen a forum member in this thread called Cloudbuster. Oh my, having such similar user names could get really confusing. I'd have picked a different name for myself if I'd seen you around, Cloudbuster - hope you don't mind.

I think it's fine to moan a bit as you have here. As long as it doesn't get personal, which you didn't, I don't see why anyone should object. It's an opinion like any other.

Considering what people have to choose from the top 10 is dire, another moan!

I think those of us who are truly passionate about music as an art form are entitled to moan when we live in a world where "music" from cretins like Dappy gets to number one.

For the record, I don't even consider myself a music snob. I like a lot of cheesy pop and songs that get mentioned in "worst songs ever" thread. But I do have a line and there is an awful lot of music out there which is just noise to me, and not a nice noise.

Believe me, I could be very, very rude when it comes to this subject but I don't want to be banned.
