Contract phone with Three
lem ramsay

I am currently on pay-as-you-go with them, using the £15 add-on for the unlimited data mainly. I use the phone tethered to our 2 computers and this has worked fine for the last 2 years. Speed is not that good... really can't stream anything during the daytime.
Anyway, I am sticking with them for the unlimited data.
I text occasionally and might use just about 10 mins out of the 300 I am given, during a month.
I am looking to buy a new phone and wanted to take out a contract. It would be my first ever.
I don't have any credit history and I know phone companies credit-check you when you want to get a contract.
Am I likely to fail the credit check?
Also, I was seeing that on the cheapest plans you are not allowed to tether; I think with my add-on on pay-as-you-go I shouldn't be allowed either, but I have been doing it fine for a couple of years by now.
If I tether on a plan that doesn't allow it, would I get surprises in the bill? I would get the plan that allows it, for piece of mind, but just thought I would ask. Thanks in advance.

Could the above perhaps also explain this?

I doubt that you will ever get a bill for tethering on a tariff which doesn't allow it, not unless you go over any fixed data limit and then get charged per mb.

The majority of networks do actively block it though, which results in a screen showing a message telling you that tethering is blocked.

I think the only tariff(s) on three which officially allows tethering are on the 'One Plan'

You wouldn't get a bill if you use data through tethering on a package that doesn't allow it. If they did find out, they would just let you know through text, call or a letter to stop doing it or change to a contract which allows it.

They have a system whether on pay as you go or contract that can detect if you're using tethering but they don't actively stop you from doing it.

Thanks for the answers. I am still thinking I wouldn't be able to get a contract with no credit history.

Its easy to get a contract with 3. My friend has 2 defaults on his credit file and got a 24 months contract with them

If you have been using a Three PAYG sim for a while, that should bump your score up with them.. .

The only plan that allows tethering is The One Plan.

Not quite true that is the only plan where it is standard but you can get a addon for the rest of the plans that allow you to tether 2GB i believe.

Do it on line, you'll find out straight away. Also as long as you don't make any calls on the new phone and change your mind just send it back within 14 days.
