I thought that Richard Hillman conned Emily into signing over her house. If I remember rightly it was one of those schemes where you sell the house but can still live in it. For some reason Emily wanted the money to give to Spider.

Does anyone else remember this?

She got the house back by using the money she got from running her brothel.

As her house was owned by Richard's company, Emily was worried that the escapade would leave her homeless, but fortunately this was not the case and Emily retained ownership of the house.

From wiki.... But doesn't explain how

Emily was ok but Jack and Vera lost their money. That was never explained either.

Norris said he'd end up homeless if Freda or Spider inherit the house, but I thought he owned the Kabin? He could sleep in the flat there??

He could but it would be a bit unfair to evict Rita, Dennis, Tina and Tommy just for the sake of having a bed for himself

I wouldn't put it past the spiteful little elf, though.

What a bloody hypocrite - he accuses Freda and Spider of being after Emily's house when she dies, but then has the front to more or less state that he wants the place when she cops it! Emily surely has to be a saint for putting up with the sneaky, miserable toerag all these years.

Norris used to be one of my favourites, but they've really turned him into a nasty, mean-spirited troll. If he's not passing off other people's gifts as his own, he's basking in the misery and woes of his neighbours.

Norris mentioned being married to Myrtle. Who was Myrtle? I remember him being married to Angela who was a tyrant but I don't remember a Myrtle.

Some people say that Audreh stepped in and paid Jack and Vera back to save Gail from taking the flak. (I can't remember, but it would probably make sense).

We'd had this Norris & Emily's house storyline before, the last time he went rifing through her draws found her will & opened it, Rita went mad when she found out and so did Emily. And who the hell was this "Mertal" wife he was banging on about, Norris was formerly Married to Angela who was also formerly Married to Derek before he got with Mavis.

I think you're right ericos as I'm sure I remember Rita buying the flat when they were newly built. The Kabin had been there for years

They are not trying to make anything out. Myrtle has been mentioned for years. Norris was married to her before they divorced and he moved in with Derek and Mavis. He married Angela some time after that.

When Richard made the deal with Emily I think that was before he was dodgy. He actually gave Emily a lot of money for the house which she then gave to Spider to buy a juice bar.

If the deal was invalid then why didn't Emily have to give the money back?

Well the equity she sold was only £15K, so not a massive amount even then, but all the ramifications of it being a fraudulent deal didn't come out until after RH's death, so who would be pursuing her to give back the money?

Sounds as if she doesn't own the house then if she gave Spider the sale proceeds. I would love to see the ungrateful ratbag on the street. Maybe she could go to that Soup Kitchen where Dennis was before he went to Rita with his begging bowl.

From Richard Hillman's wikipedia page

Richard becomes desperate for money and decides to kill again. His next target is Emily Bishop (Eileen Derbyshire), whose house he had bought. Upon Emily's death, he would be free to sell her house.

Yes I remember this. I remember her saying that he may as well have his inheritance now.
