My Sky contract is up today and the Sky HD Box is basically goosed feezing up every day and needing a reset at least twice a day
so have decided to get a Free sat box and have a few questions

which is the best Freesat box that records HD there looks to be a new Humax 1010 recorder but very bad reviews saying not fit for purpose etc with wifi problems

I want two Freesat boxes one for the bedroom so I will need a quad LNB (not sure whats up there at the moment)

Looking to subscribe to the BT sport for the UFC Fighting,,, can I get BT on the freesat platform

Do I put my exsisting Sky card in the Freesat box or do I need a different 'new' card
thanks

Take no notice of the bad reviews for the Humax HDR 1000s(non Wifi) & 1010s(Wifi) as they're very good Freesat boxes indeed.
As with all new to the market boxes these days it had some initial teething problems, but things have come on leaps and bounds and apart from one small issue with YouTube there's no complaints from me. (Its nothing major, just 'Loading' appears on screen during video playback which YouTube are investigating)
We're still awaiting the last of the advertised catchup players being Demand 5 which has an end of summer eta, which if its anywhere near as good as the recently launched 4OD player then it should be worth the wait.
You cannot get the BT sport channels on the Freesat platform at this time, whether this will change in the future I couldn't say.
You don't need a viewing card for Freesat, its just plug in and away you go. But saying that there is a slot on the side of the Humax boxes for a CAM & card just incase any subscription options do ever become available.

Thanks for the quick reply.
reading your answer BT Sport not available is a huge problem for me as I love the UFC Fighting

and regarding the new Humax 1010 wifi recorder.. I cannot find a single review from anyone saying anything good about it.. on Amazon there are only two reviews from users and both returned the box to be swapped because the wifi not connected coming on screen every 10 minutes and the new swapped out boxes did the same
not saying the 1000 box does that but am concerned about the lack of user reviews saying anything good about the 1010 box

A couple of days ago there was a new software update and so far I've not seen any reported issues regarding the 1010s.
If you want some more detailed answers regarding the 1010s then I'd recommend asking Barry at MyHumax as hes a beta tester so has much more experience with this unit. Just bear in mind though that any complaints you are seeing through forums or reviews elsewhere were made before the most recent software update so doesn't give a true account of what the box is currently like.

You won't find a better Freesat box than the 1000s/1010s from Humax. Personally I think you are better with the 1000s (no Wifi) and using a Homeplug device instead for Ethernet connection - very reliable with this method. I would echo the comments made by Gonzo. No idea about UFC fighting or what it is.

I guess what you read was before the last firmware update. which included changes to WiFi handling.

I think some ITV HD regions are still free to view which means you need a Sky card, however freesat only tunes to the free to air versions of ITV HD which don't require a viewing card.

That said your Sky box should still be able to recieve ITV HD with a viewing card installed.

Remember that ITV 2,3 & 4 HD are subscription only channels though.

Freesat doesn't get ITV 2,3 & 4 HD because Freesat ISN'T a subcription based service.

You dont need viewing cards for Freesat, but do for Freesat from Sky.
Freesat doesn't get ITV4 HD as its purely only available as part of subscription packages with the likes of Sky for added revenue income.

I am getting a little confused here
on my dying SKY HD box the card is switched of now and I get ITV 1 2 3 and 4 Not ITV 4HD

ifI get a humax freesat I wont get any of those channels even in SD format!!

according to this listings site it clearly has the ITV HD 4 ticked for freesat

Freesat has all the SD variants but only ITV-HD (There is no ITV 1).

There's no ITV4-HD on the link you posted only CH4-HD which is on Freesat

ITV 1, 2, 3 & 4 are available in Freesat, ITV4 HD is not. Ch119 is ITV HD, I don't see any ITV4 HD on your quoted site.

ITV replaced ITV 1 and ITV+1 replaced ITV1+1 quite a while ago.

I still refer to it as ITV1, you know how it is with age. While we're being very precise I should add for the OP that neither ITV HD or ITV Player are available if you input a Scottish postcode in the setup (ITV dispute with STV).

Considering the amount of money ITV spent on the rebadging including new channel logos and the blaze of publicity at the time I think they will be rather disappointed.

Well you could simply look at the channel list and channel logos on your Freesat box epg. :confused. Not to mention the HD and SD channel dogs.

This is getting pettier and pettier. For heavens sake grow up. You were wrong and are still wrong. If you select 103 what does it say on the now/next banner. If you press 112 what does it say on the now/next banner. If you select 103 on the epg what's the channel name at the top of the screen. I take it you can read ?

There is no channel ITV 1 accept this fact instead of trying to defend the indefensible.

I did in fact admit I had got that wrong, I simply through habit referred to ITV as ITV1. Your insults do nothing to disguise you being a pedant. Get a life.

I have to say Graham I'm in Pollensa's camp here. I had noticed some rebranding with ITV but had no idea they had renamed the channels. No good saying what does it say in EPG as the font is so small (especially from 12 feet ) I can't see it, same applies to the DOGS.
