EE - And they call this acting?
With the potential of the Max/Tanya storyline it was a great shame to see it totally ruined by the apalling 'acting' by Max.
At one time shouting so laud that it was necessary to turn the sound down, at other times totally incomprehensible mumbling. The only way to make any sense of his 'performance' was to constantly keep adjusting the volume. Is it the fault of the actor? Is it the fault of the sound engineers? Either way, like so many BBC programmes these days the sound balance was awful. Do any of the production staff actually listen to the output in a domestic environment? Wouldn't happen in the terminally boring Tennis, for sure! |

Jake Wood is one of the best actors in soap, most people do shout when they are peed off, you should come live in my area, if you think Max's shouting is bad, you havn't heard nothing.

I have always managed to hear and understand him perfectly, I also find Max and Tanya to have rather realistic arguements

Compared with Dexter and Joey Braindead , Max is clear and easy to understand

Have to say I found it an utter drag of an episode last night, just Max & Tanya going over the same old repetitive ground we've witnessed countless times over the past few years.
I gave up half way through & switched over to Four Rooms. I don't expect loyal EE fans to agree with me, but as leaving episodes go, that was a stinker. |

Another excuse to slag off Eastenders? Why couldn't you have added it to the other hundred Anti-Easenders threads?

OP - and who are you?
I have never seen you comment on any EE thread before, so is this a new opinion, or prompted by the fact that EE beat Corrie in the ratings for once? |

Just had a little search back and the OP is in fact a corrie fan. He made a post in an EastEnders thread not so long ago 'Becoming? Wrong word. The word you need is short and sweet - is EE - a byword for mediocrity. Weak storyline - get the characters to shout. Weak acting - get the characters to shout. ' |

Thought it was a wonderful episode and even though it's Max & Tanya again, I felt that we covered new ground as Tanya finally faced the responsibilities she and Max have been ignoring for almost 20 years. They're toxic and not only are they bad for each other but they're killing their children.
Jake Wood and Jo Joyner were fantastic and it was almost effortless. They tugged at your heart strings while almost making you tut with disgust. The balance of emotions was fantastic and I thought it was wonderfully written by Simon Ashdown. I felt for the first time in a long time, it appeared that they were highlighting some good continuity. I remember that very first argument on the Square between the couple and I was so pleased (and impressed) that it was referenced last night. As for not being able to understand Jake Wood. That's ridiculous, I heard every word. |

There's no Max in the cast.

Perhaps you are confused because I used the labels Max/Tanya to identify the characters. Regardless, the actor who 'plays' the part of Max was the one reason why the otherwise high quality performances were spoiled for most viewers. Not sure how you can describe an actor whose vocal range is either shouting or mumbling, and can only portray 'emotion' by frowning or scowling, as 'fantastic'. If you could understand every word of his dialogue then I would certainly not like to be a near neighbour of yours - you must have had the volume turned up to excruciating levels. |

For the most part I think Jake Wood is good and he and Jo have incredible chemistry, however sometimes I can't quite ignore the fact that he is trying very hard to give 'a credible performance' and it becomes very apparent that this is an actor playing a role. Last night though I think it was fine, tbh was too busy laughing at the sheer cheek of the character! The show was well and truly stole by Jo though.

I just posted on another thread that he was appalling in Friday's episode![]() Jake Wooden is a very limited and predictable actor who has been phoning it in for years. I'll admit he used to be okay but he's always been overrated and you'd think he would've put a bit more effort in knowing this was Tanya's ''final'' episode. The character of Max is repugnant and should be axed. He literally makes my skin crawl (the character, not the actor). |
