Actors on Eastenders always seem to shout and scream to get their point across the reason they shout is because we can barely hear them in their normal speaking voice.

Jake Wood is a limited actor he wouldn't be good enough to get other acting jobs. Remember when Robert Kazinsky left Eastenders to try to crack America? That worked out well for him didn't it.

Jake Wood is an awful actor! I don't watch the show anymore...purely because it became Branning Square..and I never liked any of the characters...except Dot Stacey and Bradley.

Also the OP has as much right as anyone else to post here, it's an open forum. I lurked for years before darling to post, because it always came across as a clique who despised outsiders. That had changed a lot in the past year...and the threads have been so much more welcoming.

I usually think Jake Wood is a great actor, but I found a lot of his lines last night contained the constant 'yeahs' & 'awights' that Joey relies on all the time and which I find really annoying.

Jake Wood is a fantastic actor, but that's my opinion!

I lasted about 8 minutes before switching over to ITV. Not a Branning fan at the best of times, but exit episodes tend to be ok, but you could tell from the start this was going to be the same old stuff we'd seen time and time again with Max and Tanya.

Oh dear, you've already put me off watching Omnibus EE tomorrow, having missed the Tanya leaving ep. yesterday! I had already predicted it would be the said couple arguing over the same old, same old material and you've pretty much verified that to be the case already!

After some of the early reaction, I thought it only fair to re-read, (note, re-read, not read for the first time), most of the EE-related postings over the last year or so. (Yes, yes, I know - get a life!).

From a group of posters on here, no names, no pack drill, a visitor from Mars could be forgiven for thinking that EE was magnificent, timeless and unequalled in the many and varied worlds of entertainment.

Scripts and story-lines having the delicate grace of Shakespearean sonnets, the drama and intrigue of Hamlet, the action and turbulence of Richard III.

Actors and actresses whose unbridled talents outstretched even the brightest stars in the Hollywood firmament, even in in the lean years.

Actors and actresses who could unfailingly deliver their lines and display their emotions as good as, nay, better, than the Oliviers, the Gielguds, the Mirrens and so on.

Actors, actresses and scriptwriters who all, without exception, deserve every BAFTA Award going, not this year, not last year, but every single year.


The truth is, it seems to me, is very different. Sometimes good, occasionally exceptionally good, sometimes bad, sometimes excruciatingly bad, but mostly just normal, run-of-the-mill average soap fare. No more, no less.

It is somewhat misleading to claim being a spokesmen for `Most Viewers 'on the performance of `Max`, for it is I who speaks for the `majority of viewers` on the matter of Max & his vocals..

I suspect it's your television - mine doesn't seem to have this problem.

In fact we have different opinions on this topic, and, on this thread ,and several others, it appears that, in this instance, your opinion is in the minority. I respect your opinion as you should respect mine.

You appear to have missed the all-important point that I made, namely that it was the poor, unconvincing, performance of the actor playing 'Max' that degraded the impressive and very professional performance of the actress playing 'Tanya'.

Sadly, when talking to neighbours, sundry acquaintances and work colleagues about 'last nights TV', complaining about poor sound balance seems to be regular topic.


It is bad enough when commercial channels increase the volume during ad-breaks, (something that has been commented on both in the national press and in other Forums), but the BBC, supposedly, is the ultimate standard for quality. (Well it should be and indeed it used to be.)

I think there must be problems with the sound engineers because I find the very audible shoe shuffling very distracting. Max is the worst offender. Now, I realise he may not be able to help the way he walks, but the sound people could surely edit out the sound. I really wish they'd sort it out!

As for the acting in Eastenders, I am always surprised at how the actors, when interviewed, come across as far more articulate and interesting than the characters they play. It must be quite depressing having to "act down" so much for a living.

Disclaimer: Just because I haven't been full of praise for Eastenders in this post, it doesn't mean I'm a fanatical Corrie fan, in fact I don't watch that at all, I gave up on all the soaps until I got hooked on EE again with the Lola/Lexie storyline.

Well said! We are all entitled to our opinions.

Sadly, in any Forum there are always one or two contributors who feel that their views are so weighty, so important that, so overwhelmingly in the right, that, if it were possible they would be engraved on tablets of stone.

Post on any Forum, on any topic, be it recreational or technical, (and I post on a large number in both categories, as well as moderating a couple), don't expect everyone to share your views. Equally, I don't expect fellow contributors to be bigoted or biassed. I respect their views, why is so difficult for some to respect the views of anyone who does not agree with them.

The Brannings and their endless on/off affairs were the reasons I stopped watching EE regularly. They were rammed down our throats for years, if not Max and Tanya then Max/Stacey. I watched the omnibus just to see if Max had improved - he hasn't. Now it looks like we're getting lumbered with Max and Kirsty. Please EE get rid of a one dimensional character and a not very good actor. I want to start watching again!

I'd like Max to remain single for a while and focus on being a dad to Abi and then eventually Lauren when she returns. I'd like Max to get a new friend or a surrogate son like his realtionship with Darren which was a great partnership, some Max/Jay scenes would be very welcome.

Jake Wood has been in alot of things before Eastenders? What does Jake have to do to impress all of you? I can understand him really well.
