I bought it in a sale, thinking all HDMI cables are the same, but I notice on the packaging that it only mentions support for:-

3840 x 2160 - 24 Hz/25 Hz/30 Hz
4096 x 2160 - 24 Hz

There's no mention of lower screen resolutions, or Blu-ray players for that matter.

Summary:- Will this 4K 4096 x 2160 HDMI cable work alright with a 720p tv set and Blu-ray player?

Yes, essentially a piece of wire is a piece of wire

Any HDMI lead will work.

I don't read German, but presumably 'Maximale' means maximum?.

Jesus! - just seen the price of it

Are you not aware that a 1 HDMI lead gives exactly the same picture?.

Thanks for the reply. I just wasn't sure about it.

As for the price........ It was 2 at Asda. Cheapest one they had, which is why i bought it. I also bought a Toshiba Blu-ray player there, for 32.

I have just bought 2 HDMI leads for 6 each. Some companies charge ridiculous prices for these leads, they should be shut down.

Yes, indeed, and 6 is a ridiculous price when they can be got for under 1 in a 99p shop.

These threads always descend into a competition about buying the cheapest HDMI lead, it gets really boring.

Yes spending a lot of money on an HDMI lead is silly but it's pointless worrying about paying 2 or 6 when the system will cost hundreds or even more.

Well you dont have to read them, or post in them.

They also turn into who can find the most expensive, that can be a eye opener when you see those prices.

The threads start off okay with someone genuinely asking questions but then descend into the usual nonsense. Maybe someone like myself commenting on this will make some people think twice before they mess up the thread.

On the other hand maybe they won't as some really like the "mine is bigger than yours" arguments, it's not that big a deal.

We should have a sticky thread where interested people can boast how cheaply they got an HDMI cable and everybody else can ignore it.

That may be, but you also have to be realistic as well, paying really cheap might mean you till get a really cheap product which will not last. You only get what you pay for, although paying more than 30 for a HDMI Lead is too far fetched the other way.

The price I paid is realistic, and I am sure it will last a while.

Google Audioquest or Wireworld.

Your gob will be well and truly smacked by the prices you can pay for their top of the range products.

The problem is that digital technology is a black art to most people. So the salesperson, who in reality often knows little if any more than the customer, can easily use some clever sounding BS waffle to convince the customer they need to spend <name your price here> to get the "best" out of their shiny new Blu-ray player, or whatever.

Not necessarily, certainly not for standard lengths of one or two metres.

As long as the cable is of decent construction and properly shielded it makes zero difference if the cable costs 2 or 32.

You are also likely to find that all the cables (with the exception of those costing many hundreds or thousands) are all made in the same factories in China.

Agreed.

I once had a Curry's "expert" trying to convince my mother she needed to spend 130 on a 1m HDMi cable to go with her new TV. I let him waffle on for about ten minutes before saving her from his sales patter. I gave her one of my 3 2metre cables from Amazon.

Good for you. I was in the new Maplins shop recently in Middlesbrough and noticed that some of their HDMI Leads were being priced well in double figures.
