EE - Who is Phil Mitchell?
If new viewers want to tune in now, they will say a grumpy bald fat lonely old man working on a few cars, which is true these days but they wont see what we saw in the past, in the 90s-2006,
The Mitchell magic is dead and gone, Phil currently does nothing worth remembering or reminiscing about, and the new generation of kids wont see, what we saw and remember, and when they grow up, they have nothing to remember about him, They will see him as annoying, old, boring! I do not want Grant back anymore under the current exec and writers, as Simon Ashdown is not all that! Tony Jordan knew the Mitchells inside out! Do you get what I mean? |

People complain when Phil is pushing people around, punching people and trying to be a hard man at his age. People complain that he's not anymore.
I don't understand DS sometimes In all seriousness, currently Phil im happy that Phil is what he is now than if he started punching people and getting into fights at his age. As Den Watts sort of said hes the type of person who got a name for himself when he was young and now he's living off of that notoriety. |

I want him to be friendly again and actually have a friend on the square, and only be hard when its needed and not just for the sake of it!
Gary, Phil and minty made a realistic, logical and slightly enjoyable group of friends, there's no one like that on the square. Maybe someone like Sam or Carl could befriend him, again that's at a push. |

Phil hit a wall years ago. Every so often they throw a storyline at him and he improves for a little while but inevitably returns to form at the end of it. Steve McFadden is a great actor but the character of Phil feels like a spent force now. I wouldn't want him to leave but I'd like to see him improve a lot. The Lola/Lexi/Sharon storyline made him duller than ever. I expected the Ben/Heather storyline to develop Phil into a better person but that never happened and that storyline only really served to get rid of Heather and Ben when all is said and done.

Phil should have gone away when Peggy did. He's no enrichment to the show anymore.

Who is he?
A balding middle aged, red faced fat bloke with sex appeal. Who'd have believed it? |

Some true OP, as he is getting old he still does it for me, being it more his reputation and a weapon of choice though and I still think he gives of a really good hardman role as a guy getting on living on that reputation that is important and viewers should never forget.
I tune in to watch Eastenders in the hope of him in a scene could not careless about many others, I've watched him for as long as I can remember and when he leaves so do I it would be hard for me to watch without Steve. |

The writers have KILLED his character these last few years. An iconic character reduced to a boring grumpy middle aged softy with no friends, no partner and practically no family.
Pairing him with Shirley was the first nail in the coffin. Phil would never in a million years have gone for a women like Shirley. At the time, it wasnt that long ago he was shagging beauties like Dawn Swann ! The domestic life with Shirley ruined him. Lately his storylines have been pathetic. The baby storyline was boring and the big reunion with Sharon was an almighty let down. The problem with him now there is no characters for him to have as friends and spar off. He has virtually no scenes with older male characters like Jack, Michael, Alfie, Max or even Ian anymore. The only glimpse of a personality we have seen recently is when he had the short lived "thing" with Tanya and we saw the old glint in his eye again and there was some genuinely funny scenes. Shame that couldnt be developed. Phil can be saved but he needs a new girlfriend NOW and some proper storylines. He needs to be back in the Vic with a lady on his arm and get rid of the dead wood at the pub like Alfie, Jean and Roxy. |

He was brilliant in the 90s with Grant, they were both thugs but he was the calmer one, they were quite comedic as well, the mitchell brothers were brilliant. Sharongate was really good, I liked his and Kathys relationship, he was good to Peggy, I liked how he treated Jamie like a son, I liked him when Ben first arrived in 2006.
Now they have just turned him into a lonely, bitter old man and they have killed his character (they've killed Sharon, Kat, Dot and Janines characters as well) The only family he's got left is Roxy (and Ronnie soon) but he's never really been bothered about them. I hope they recast and bring Louise back in a few years when shes like 16/17. |

Yeah, I can go with a lot of what you said. I was hoping they were going to lure Tony Jordan back, but apparently he retired. Surely there's some up and coming writers somewhere who was inspired by the likes of him. Where are they?

He is an aging ex hard man, who has finally realised he has wasted his life trying to bully and get one over people and has discovered his soft side through lexi, it's too late for him to make friends as people have preconceived ideas of what he is and stands for.

Who is Phil Mitchell? I believe he is a bald, overweight alcoholic crackhead. Have I answered your question, OP ?

Isn't this what everyone thought Phil would eventually become? He's old and alone. Of course he's grumpy - there's nobody left to care about him. If they had any sense, they'd finally allow him and Billy to become good friends - but as it stands it's just family obligation that keeps them interacting together.
They should kill off Lisa and have Louise come live with him - she might enjoy it now Ben isn't around. He needs a new wife too - anyone but Sharon. Realistically they should bring in a ready made family - something he can just 'step into'. |

Why do people keep calling Phil balding? He lost his hair two decades ago!

Phil has nowhere left to go at all.
He has become dull, directionless and essentially useless. He won't be axed so the actor should accept he hit a wall years ago and have a bit of self respect and quit rather than picking up his steady pay cheque. |

It could be said that `Grant Mitchell` (Ross Kemp) could see where his character was going, and got out to do more interesting parts before he also become a `Has Been` like Phil..
![]() ![]() ![]() I would have guaranteed that people would be tired of him if he stayed, |
