Corrie, Ken and Kevin
If they are not guilty, how long will they be on screen till we see them ? or will they just spend time with their family, and be off more time
Ken will just pop from being upstairs i suppose lol,and Kevin will come back from looking after his dad

Michael Le Vell's trial is in September, so he'll probably have been off screen at least a year before any return. Bill Roache's is in January, so probably next spring at the earliest. If they come back at all that is.

I feel acutely aware of their absence and it feels strange that no one (the characters) have not mentioned them.
I suppose I do miss Ken more because normally he would have been popping to see Emily, probably finding Roy on the rec and perhaps would have had more of a feud with Rob, also it is obvious that Deirdre is 'filling in' where Ken probably would have been present. |

I'm not missing Kevin at all, couldnt face him and Sal getting back together for the 1000th time.
I miss Ken but Deidre is doing a good job on her own in filling in for him, I am just wondering if and when we will get any explanation as to where he is gone, Kevin got one so surely Ken should get something as well. |

I don't miss them either. In fact, I think the soap is better without them!!

I'm curious what will happen if Bill Roach is convicted. On one hand, this is the longest serving character in the soap and the country for that matter. Practically a world wide known British icon. For there not to be made a fanfare about the character's exit will seem odd.
Hell, the same can be said for Kevin. Michael has played him, what, 30 years? On the other hand, Roach will be a convicted paedophile. So an episode dedicated to remembering his character, the one he is associated with, would be considered to be in bad taste. Interesting dilemma. |

Why would they mention the absence of the characters? The whole point of suspending the actors whilst both are awaiting trial is that they don't want to be seen to be condoning their behaviour/supporting them if they're guilty. I guess TPTB would see referring to the characters (even though they're off-screen currently) as somehow promoting them and offending their alleged victims. In circumstances like this we're just supposed to accept the suspension of reality, obviously continuity is important on television but not at the expense of being controversial and being seen to have a blasé attitude towards sexual abuse.

It is the actors not the characters who are accused. A simple reference to the supposed whereabouts of Ken is not a big deal and would show some respect to millions of viewers, assuming the production team care in the slightest.

Give them time. They'll probably write something in to explain his absence before long, just as they did about Kevin. |

I've not watched stacks of Coronation Street recently but it seems to me like this whole mess is actually doing Deirdre and Anne Kirkbride a favour in some grotesque way.
As others have said, Deirdre seems to have stepped out of the shadow of being Ken's stooge and has really come into her own. She's getting involved in stories that don't focus on the back room at No.1, which seems to be where she's only ever appeared for the past 10 years. |

I'm not sure we've even got to the eps yet which had have to be rewritten without Bill Roache. He was arrested on May 1, and the scenes of Roy sleepwalking were filmed before 30 April (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz...es-rescue.html).
Therefore all the scenes of Deirdre on her own were always meant to be, and would have filmed during Roache's 5 week trip to New Zealand in April, before his arrest. |

They don't have to explain it - I mean, where's Emily been for the last few months? They didn't explain that. They've killed many great character off screen, so if they have to do it for Ken they will: Deirdre will claim he only wanted a small affair, and all we'll see is them leaving for the funeral (from inside number 1) and the wake at The Rovers. Then it'll be business as usual.

Ken might be a part of Corrie for 53 years and yes that is a remarkable achievement but good God he is atrocious at acting and his character is so unlikable. I personally couldn't care whether he is never seen or heard of again!
Kevin on the other hand, he's a very average actor, his character is also very average and the only thing that I can't stand about the actor is how he feels the need to shout in every scene! ![]() Basically I am not missing either of them!
