Aren't soaps supposed to be unrealistic and overdramatic?

Bad people get away with stuff in real life or don't get caught for years. So why not in a soap?

I think when his time comes it is more likely that Browning will be killed or he'll go to Prison for a crime he hasn't actually committed. Soaps like the karmic irony of that.

I do agree with whoever said that it is nice that you don't know whether someone committing a serious crime sounds the death knell for someone in Hollyoaks unlike say Corrie where any killer descends into near panto villlainy for about a year before dying themselves.”

In Browning's case though I can't help feeling a bit sorry for him. He killed Lindsey in a moment of madness in the heat of passion and seemed to regret his actions almost instantly plus judging from the flashbacks, Lindsey was very cruel and provocative (this doesn't make what Browning did right of course but if the idiot had handed himself in immediately a good defence lawyer could ask for a more lenient sentence on the grounds that under such circumstances anyone could snap) - also it's not really Browning's fault that his love for Mercedes is obsessive and unhealthy. He clearly has issues. In many ways what Mercedes did (stalking Mitzee, stabbing herself and framing Mitzee) was much worse than what Browning did because it was cold, calculating, premeditated and planned and at least Browning unlike Mercy has felt guilt over his actions. Still, having said that even I was shocked that Browning tried to attack the new Lindsey in the lift though she was perhaps unwise to provoke him.

Soaps don't want to give out the wrong message or suggest that actions that are clearly wrong are okay provided you don't get caught which is quite right but sometimes in soap a character is acted in such a way that you can have compassion for said character even while acknowledging that they shouldn't have done what they did i.e. John Stape (Corrie), Dr Browning (Hollyoaks) - all that annoys me is the way in which most characters are so judgemental when they find out that another character did a bad thing - they are immediately branded a psycho or a monster even before it is known in what situation the bad action happened, what the motive was etc - like the Websters saying poor John Stape was putting on an act when his guilt/mental breakdowns were obvious.
