God no, they never learn, this is a awful plot...Kat and Alfie are a toxic couple, they can't write for them, they ruined their happy ending and almost destroyed them as characters, leave them as they are Kat is starting to become likable again and that will be ruined if she put back in the Vic with Alfie.

Ha, ha, Roxy got hers!

Let's not forget, Rita wanted Ms. Mitchell in the gutter...

I think Ronnie and Roxy should plot to scrap Alfie's ownership of the Queen Victoria so they can start from scratch.
I'm sure there is a way he and Kat can run a stall together? It will take a lot of convincing for viewers to want them coupled again, they could play hard-to-get?

I know what might peak interest, if Roxy clearly never gets pregnant by Alfie, it leaves potential for him to have his first child (assuming Tommy isn't his) with Kat. There's always a DNA test...

[Kat] needs to permanently move away from temptation to stray if Alfie takes her back. But she will always be flirtatious. She just needs to convince him she has changed.
Indeed, one way Alfie could ever rebuild his trust in Kat is to help her with the sex addiction...

There is no chemistry between Alfie and Roxy. The sooner they split the better. I don't want Kat and Alfie back together. Ronnie's return will ruffle a lot of feathers and I'm looking forward to it.

Yeah, a tougher version of Andy without the army of thugs backing him up. It seems too obvious to me . EE have tendency to clone characters (even rubbish ones) after all.

The spoilers for next week say Alfie turns Kats world upside down.....obviously it's just a guess but let's say he proposes to Roxy....how can Kat then consider just getting back together with him? How can he just go back to her?....after all the things that were said and done its just poor writing and and not credible.

Ronnie is evil? She is a lot of things, but evil is not one of them.”

While I agree about Ronnie not being evil, I don't like Kat and Alfie as a couple any more.

Absolutely loathe Ronnie. She should not be allowed near any children on the square. Quite a difficult practical problem.

I was excited when they announced Sam's return but if the story turns out to be true then what a let down for both the character and Sam. What they should do is have Phil receive a cal from Ritchie and then... With Jack leaving too (would he have already left yet?) he shouldn't be involved at this stage but will be included somehow. Phil is trying to remain calm after hearing about Ronnie plan to return to the square . He walks past Shirley and she sense that's something's up? Will she find out?

I knew what this story would say as soon as I saw the thread title

Alfie - when you love someone enough to want to marry them, you don't dump them and get straight back with the ex wife who cheated on you with the ugliest man on the square (and that's saying something), no matter what the circumstances, you obviously loved roxy enough to get with her and propose and try for a baby when Ronnie was in prison,! what has changed?

I swear some of these characters are written as borderline psychopaths! they have no emotional empathy and move coldly from one person to another and back with no compunction...

This is so stupid, sounds like he only gets back with Kat because he doesn't want Ronnie back at the square, what a totally WRONG reason. and sorry didn't Kat forgive Ronnie just before she was carted off to prison anyway, so why is she so upset and angry?? Ronnie wouldn't be allowed back there anyway why would she even want to go back there??

utter bollocks

I really wish TPTB would stop trying to make out Kat/Alfie are meant to be together or that they are a great love story, more like a crap story.”

Thing is, when Kat and Alfie first got together, they were supposed to be a great love story. The chemistry between the two was electrifying, and I was one of many who loved it, a whole 10 years ago (and I was only 11, go figure). It wasn't all perfect back then though. The Alfie/Little Mo love story was a bit ridiculous in all honesty, but Alfie was a single man, Kat had broken his heart trying to save him from the nutcase Andy, and he ended up with her sister.

However, in Christmas 2005 when Kat was there for Alfie following Nana's death, they both realized they did truly love each other. Little Mo gave Kat her blessing, Alfie came back for her and together they went off to see the world.

And can I just add, 2005 saw Kat break up from Alfie and be on her own. In that year, we saw her terrorize Chrissie and Sam once she found out who killed Den, as well as stand up to the Mitchell Brothers. We saw her be forced to realize that it was her sister who was the damaged one, who after being beaten and raped twice had finally found what Kat knew was a lovely man who would dote on her. This Kat, simply put, kicked arse.

Therefore, when BK announced both of them were coming back, I couldn't wait. I loved them as a kid and I was sure I'd love them as an adult. Then, they came back.

Baby swaps. Affairs. Misery. That's the Kat and Alfie of 2010-2012. I've ranted about the appalling Shagger storyline before, so I'll keep it brief here. Yes, Derek may have been the "ugliest man on the square," but, as most EE viewers and staff seem to not realize these days, it is not all about looks. The trouble was, we have no idea and never will what Kat saw in him. If they are going to shove the broken Kat and Alfie back together and even attempt to bring out the chemistry they had 10 years ago, we need a two-hander. We need Kat to explain why she did it. We need Alfie to realize that he can't stop wanting her. We need them to both be scared for Tommy. Maybe they will do this. One can only hope.

We all knew it was going to happen. And, to be fair, it does make sense. Alfie will feel betrayed, Roxy will feel torn, and Kat will be cackling in the background. This year was supposed to have redeemed her. Exactly, how? She's been wandering around the square miserable for most of it, befriending the also ruined Bianca and the thinnest pregnant woman ever Kirsty (seriously, Max is supposed to be intelligent). So, at the moment, I'm not routing for her to get her family back. That's because she's simply been ruined as a character.

We could forgive Sharon and Pat when they had their affairs. Sharon loved both brothers, but every time Grant was violent towards her she was drawn to him (I've watched the old episodes, as I was very young when this aired). Pat never stopped loving Frank. As for Kat... there was no reason for her to be with Derek other than "we need a Christmas storyline." They are relying so much on the great couple Kat and Alfie once were to facilitate their reunion when, in all honesty, it is bloody obvious more needs doing here.

Great post lordo350 and i completely agree about being able to forgive the others characters for their affairs. Even the sleazy Max Branning when he wasn't cheating on Tanya he was a decent father and husband and did show genuine remorse after the Stacey affair. Kat on the other hand has shown no remorse for her despicable actions and since Alfie kicked her out she's still had the gall to mock, criticise and even blame him for their separation. Even before the Derek affair her marriage to Alfie was a sham, she treated him appallingly, never showed him any love or affection and bullied and belittled him at every opportunity usually in public. She even had a child with another man HIS OWN COUSIN which she expected him to raise whilst she went out sleeping with other men. 2002 - 2005 they were a great couple and a touching love story, however 2010 - present they've turned Kat into a monster and Alfie a doormat yet still expect us viewers to consider them a good pairing.

I can't see Kat and Alfie getting back together been permanent much longer there's not much that can be done with them

This is why I just don't respect Alfie's character... I don't care if Kat is a better person than before, there's only so much that can happen to a couple before you realise one of them is the biggest fool in the world

that being said I always knew Roxy and Alfie would never work out

actually I have 2 questions that have been bugging me for sooooo long.....
1 what are they doing with them once they are back together?
2 when they say "this is what the audience have always wanted" what are they basing that on exactly, do they go out and do market research or go on forum websites or is it just they assume we do?????

1. Kat will do her cringing "man in the moon" spiel... then go an have another affair.
That is all.. ever

2. It is the Lorraine Newman method.

Invent some complete guff off the top of your head.

Completely ignore any evidence which disagrees with you .

Tell yourself the guff must be good as no one has argued with it, so it must be what the fans want.

Tell everyone else the guff is good and is what the fans want.

The problem is that eastenders has struggled to write well researched and balanced storylines. They made a massive presumption in the baby swap because they wrote the storyline post the swap similar to a minor villain guest character taking a baby and thought they were writing it for the favs of the show. They underestimated the character of ronnies popularity and failed to showed her grief, her confusion and fear in what she had done. We got scenes and scenes of grieving parents and yet got nothing from the true grieving parent. They wrote scenes to show the effects on kat but limited on ronnie,it braised, poor, one sided writing. Then there was the backlash and they wrote in scenes for ronnie to show her side more, gave us some of her grieving and had her hand herself in, kat forgiving her as someone damaged and someone who had made poor mistakes. Ronnie committed a crime, but even in the jokes now, people fail to distinguish between those who take babies or replace a lost baby vs the unrealistic switch in which ronnie took the baby in a moment psychosis and when she realised what she did, didn't view him as her own like your stereotypical child kidnappers do. Ie. she would not be a risk for mothers to snatch their child as that was not the character that took tommy. Nor would she be a risk to take him again as she does not recognise tommy as James. As eastenders need to be careful AGAIN about how they write this.

1. They send a message that Katz words were not true As for her to be so anti ronnies release is to take back her forgiveness. It is one thing for her to not want ronnie in close proximity, but if she truly forgave ronnie, ronnie would not be addressed as something evil.
2. They need to be careful in showing a clear difference between an evil person who actively seeks out children to steal vs someone who had suffered massive trauma and doing something terrible in a moment of psychosis. The public takes soaps too literally and it just adds to prejudice and uneducated views when they fuel irrational and black and white views.
3. They do need to address some of the usual rules placed upon those released from prison and they do need to educate that there are stricter guidelines placed on some than others. And that each case is treated different. Ronnie would not have the same restrictions as a paedophile like some are suggesting ie. they would not place restrictions on her living near a school like some suggest. And whilst there would be guidelines re contact with alie/kat, that could be that she merely doesn't live on Albert square. They could not restrict her from a suburb, especially if her family lives there as usually family is considered in conditions. They would want ronnie to have family around to help her, which would immediately fall to roxy Nd phil if Glenda and Peggy could not be contacted. But for her to live next door to kat and Alfie, and with Alfie and kat not supporting it...that will be hard to explain.
3. I get the impression that ronnie may play out like another steph scenario from neighbours, I do hope they don't have her commit another crime though.

I think if alie can forgive kat after everything she has been through, then they should look to show a stronger sense of compassion from him even if he cannot forget what ronnie did.

I personally hoped that we'd see ronnie come back to visit roxy but living off the square, to then cause issues as she realised roxy is engaged to Alfie who wants nothing to do with her. Then have jack interact with her as they reconnected recently and her needing an ally as she faces backlash and needs help to get a job. I then hoped we'd see her to apologise and explain things more rationally to Alfie and ka, begging them to forgive her and how she just wanted to make things right somehow, hoped their relationship breakdown wasnt down to her. I doubt we'll see that based on spoilers though.

I don't see the point in the seriousness of roxy and Alfie's relationship ie. trying for a baby and proposal if roxy didn't get pregnant though.
