Homechoice -> Bulldog
After 4 years as a homechoice customer I'm thinking very seriously about changing provider and taking up the current bulldog offer.
What's the best way to do this? Does the new provider contact the old one etc? I know that migrations are supposed to be easier now than they used to be but this would be an LLU->LLU migration so is not really "mainstream" yet as few enough are on LLU services. I'm also presuming that HC will want their STB back . Also (but I know it's OT), anyones experience of bulldog's LLU server would be interesting to hear.... |

What STB do you have - the Older kit or the newer one?
Bear in mind that Bulldog have recently gone through quite a rough patch and there were calls for them to return a Best ISP award after a large technical problem left their customers without DSL for a good length of time. Basically Bulldog is now just a brand name of Cable and Wireless who I wouldn't trust with an Internet connection if my life depended on it - this is based on seeing the downhill slope of their service after they took over INS Net and the service went downhill rapidly. |

This is the thing with Homechoice, its a great idea but the VOD doesnt quite do it for me. We have been with them on and off for a number of years and although the service has been wonderfully stable in their recent reincarnation the VOD content doesnt quite justify it for me.
The services cost loads and having to pay so much extra for things like kids channels etc doesnt quite cut it. The Sky channels are another 27.50 a month on top of what you pay already, so to have decent array of channels isnt very cost effective for me. I loved the music videos but again it seems 80% of new stuff is R&B, & rap from groups I have never heard of. They dont even have Anastasia (not sure how the rights to show music videos works). Part of me cant be bothered to leave and start new but at the same time I think Iv experienced something new in its early days and it might be better to come back when they have expanded their VOD content. |

Some of us are quite grateful about the lack of Anastacia

Yes ok LOL But Im just showing how it seems there is alot of rubbish on the VOD channels.
The latest offerting is V and to make matters worse its series 2 (blah), the mini series I would of enjoyed. But I just dont think they are offering enough. |

Interesting Topic
I also have been thinking of leaving HC after being with them from inception.
I have never used the VOD service..I am simply only interested in 1MB internet service. £35 a month now seems very expensive, but there are so many offers out there and you read so many horror stories of poor service from other providers that I just do not know what to do. Recently, the service has been very stable and even our two PC network runs OK, that I sit here moaning about cost without having the will to change providers. And those people at the service desk are always so pleasant! Sound like Polly and maybe others are like me. |

They need to offer a more attractive package. My friend came round and is thinking of going to HC, we sat for a a couple of hours going through all the content they provide, such as all the movies etc, music, and basically concluded that the content was mostly all the crap movies and bad sequels.
Film First used to have the latest movies but now they Sky seem to be getting more on Box Office. I love the whole idea of Home Choice and the service is reliable but the cost and the content just isnt doing it for me right now. |

They certainly need to improve their VOD, especially the BBC1 and C4. But service is very good. I may consider a move when my free upgrade to 2mb internet runs out in 10 months.
Before i got homechoice in the summer i had originally put in an order for bulldog, when their 4mb service was only 29.99. Unfortunately they wouldn't connect me as i was apparently too far away from their exchange (they said that the best they could give me was 512kb for the same price....screw that....i got homechoice, funny how they offered me 2mb and tv for 35 quid.) Bulldog weren't very helpful and only told me about this problem the day before i was supposed to be switched on (i had ordered it about 2 months before....though apparenltly it was BTs fault) Maybe they didn't want to connect me because the week later their prices went up to 40quid. hmmmm. Oh and if you have a problem with them prepare to wait AGES on the phone for anyone to help. (thats the good thing about homechoice, i have rarely had to wait longer than 2 minutes) |
