Must admit I'm pretty happy with three. I was with them from 2004-2009 and only left then because only o2 had the iPhone, followed by voda, and now I'm back with 3 again.

They and probably EE are the only networks that seem to have the infrastructure in place to support the data needs of smartphone users. I've been waiting for voda and o2 to play catchup with 3 on 3G data coverage and I'm still waiting.

Virgin mobile does seem horribly slow, although of course others in different areas may argue that they always get reasonable speeds.

These are some of my archived speed results I took over a couple of days using the Virgin Mobile network, and this was before any fair use policy overage restrictions & throttling kicked in.

Its also worth mentioning that the above tests were done in different areas at different times, ruling out local mast issues or congestion. I also use Three and T-Mobile, both of which are generally fast. Around 4mbs on T-mobile and 10 - 12 mbs on Three whilst Virgin, in comparison seems to struggle to ever go over 2 mbs and upload speeds are dire, as they never seem to go over 0.4 mbs

I have great speeds on virgin it's like lightening fast. also I top up £15 credit and get unlimited texts, and 'unlimited' data and 100 minutes and £15 credit. ideal for me personally.

Aren't the PAYG tariffs changing on Virgin Mobile from September?.

It will be the three store for me from September.

I do not wish to take out a 24 month contract to get my unlimited data.

I keep losing the internet radio and tv from my mobile and need to keep reloading them again and again.

This H+, H and 3G that appears at the top of the mobile in relation to the signal. Usually I get these 3. But lately I have seen G and even E. What on earth is E? Is that virgin throttling?

I don't have a reliable wifi signal but the wifi router is not with virgin media.

E = Edge its a sort of higher speed GPRS. Download speeds hover around 170kbs

Its not caused by Virgin Throttling, its caused by you losing 3G / HSDPA signal in your area. It could be that there is a mast upgrade / maintenance underway or it could mean that Orange / T-Mobile have recently switched off a mast in your area.

Have you tried manually switching networks from T-Mobile to Orange or vice versa ? (Virgin uses T-Mobile & Orange masts).

G and E is 2G. Basically you have no 3G signal.
