Hello there, sorry about the wait. This is a review of X Factor USA judge Demi Lovato's 2nd solo album Unbroken, enjoy

I've never been a fan of any of the American singers from American kids shows like Miley Cyrus, Jonas Brothers, Demi Lovato etc etc, but in the case of Demi my opinion changed when i heard her very new single Heart Attack and watched an interview with her, showing how real she is and I wanted to try out one of her albums to see if I would enjoy it and Unbroken definitely threw up some surprises.

The opening of the album is a bit too collaboration heavy for me; All Night Long features Missy Elliott and Timbaland and is a great opener, a more R&B flavour than I was expecting. Who's That Boy features Dev from Bass Down Low fame and, similarly to the Iyaz collaboration You're My Only Shorty) (cringiest song title ever?), is a bit repetitive and doesn't really seem to go anywhere. Together is a nice duet with Jason Derulo, but by this point you're left wondering can Demi actually sing a whole song on her own or is she going to keep relying on other people?

Anyhow, the album does definitely pick up when Ms Lovato is left to her own devices; Unbroken and Mistake show Demi's vocals off over thudding beats, but poor and repetitive song writing continues on Fix a Heart and Lightweight, paying as reminder that the the artist is still linked to Disney and still aiming towards the younger market. By far the best single off the album, Give Your Heart A Break, proves with the right pop song Demi can be hugely successful, and the power ballad Skyscraper also manages to give an insight into how, with mature songwriting, Demi could rival the likes of Kelly Clarkson to being worldwide treasures.

My Love Is Like A Star and For The Love of a Daughter close the album in an even more mature manner, and its weird how the first half of the album (All Night Long - Hold Up) sounds completely different to the second half, and it gives the idea that Demi and the people behind her weren't sure how to market her; as the former Disney girl who sings pop/R&B songs with everyone's favourite Jason Derulos/Devs, or as a proper, serious recording solo female artist. I prefer the latter and hope she continues to delve into that direction rather than the other.

TOP 3 TRACKS = Mistake, Give Your Heart a Break, Skyscraper

DUD = Fix A Heart

RELATED ARTISTS = Kelly Clarkson, Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez

OVERALL RATING = 6/10

Thanks for reading

"poor and repetitive song writing continues on Fix a Heart and Lightweight"

Wah? They're two of my favourites on there.

I'm not as big a fan of the more R 'n' B sounding songs on there, but I do like Together and Unbroken. Take off All Night Long, Who's That Boy, You're My Only Shorty and Hold Up, and it's a great album IMO. My favourite is probably Mistake. And it's her third album, not second?
