Danny Pennant is due to sweep into Albert Square in a fancy sports car (a bit like Simon Wicks, back in the day) and become the new saviour of EE.

So far Danny has been trailed as the gay superhero who will drag a variety of male characters out of their non-existent closets. He is also being billed as a shady dealer who might get one over on Phil and/or Janine. It's also been speculated that he might be part of a new family.

I don't think any character can live up to these massive expectations and it won't be long until DS is full of threads begging for him to be axed.

As disappointing as Poochie was in Itchy and Scratchy on the simpsons.

Danny the character and the actor who plays him could well play pinocchio due to being so wooden that Gary Lucy uses wood pledge from Johnson to style his barnet!

Lets just hope for the best. Eastenders, despite its problems actually still writes really for some characters. Some examples recently have been Lola, Janine and Michael.

Lets just hope Danny is in a similar situation and don't be so quick to say he is gonna be a disappintment, especially as Eastenders has been getting back on track lately.

I just have a feeling they would pile his character as a new rival for Janine followed a short affair. Their conversation between them both when Scarlet's opened suggested that to me. Disappointed if i am correct.

I don;t think Danny is actually gay.

I think he will be amoral - he will shag anyone, male or female if he thinks it will make it easier to con them out of money.

At the restaurant opening he already established that Janine was wealthy, and I think he will set about fleecing her of her money as soon as he arrives back - and the spoilers imply he arrives back WITH Janine, so they may already be an item.

I love the abundance of threads to the effect that EE is appalling these days. I stopped watching it a few years ago and it was terrible then so I pity the poor BackEnders addicts these days I think the Beeb should just put it out of its misery to be honest. It's like a badly wounded animal... no hope of recovery, cruel to prolong suffering
