Radio City still covers Everton (Alan Irwin and Alan Stubbs yesterday) and Liverpool (Steve Hothersall and John Aldridge). I don't think KCFM has covered Hull for a couple of seasons. Indeed our own Darren Lethem has his own show there at this moment. There is no independent Radio coverage of Man City or Man Utd to my knowledge.

It will be on BBC Radio Solent.

Absolute have Stoke v Crystal Palace and there is no 5 Live 3pm commentary due to the Rugby League (on 5 Live) & the Ashes (on 5L SX)..

I can't think of any sports broadcaster that I have heard who is always word perfect and has never made the odd mistake every so often during the intensity of covering a live sporting event, something I'm sure isn't at all easy to do. I'm sure if we were listening hard enough to most radio football commentators/reporters over the course of a 90 minutes they were working on, we'd all be able to pick out the odd mistake here or there, so I think it's a bit much to continually highlight little things that one particular reporter has gotten wrong. If on Saturday Graham got one bit of team news from a club he doesn't usually cover wrong, then yes this is unfortunate, but it is not a biggie either.

I'd prefer to focus on the positives - for me Graham Courtney is one of the best regional sports correspondents around. He knows the teams on his patch and seems to have a deep knowledge of their histories and a strong connection with their present day affairs. He has an instantly recognisable voice that stands out and sounds good on the radio. He seems well liked by his colleagues, tends to work well with the pundits who join him at games and always strikes up a good rapport with the presenters he talks to when on shows like the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, Hawksbee & Jacobs and Kick Off. People of Graham's ilk are quintessential radio sports reporters - they represent their patches with a distinction and closeness that a person who works the length and breadth of the country and just pops up at the same game for the day couldn't possibly hope to match.”

Did you hear his naming of the one and only goalscorer at Sunderland yesterday? A simple far post header from a corner? Would give you the listen again link for Matchday Live but although you can listen to the previous programme Matchday Live isnt accessible.

Wales v Denmark (UEFA Women's U19 Championship Group A) - Rob Phillips for BBC Radio Wales / Lowri Morgan for BBC Radio Cymru

Frances Donovan is today hosting he show (it's usually Louise Elliott at this time but she's away) from Llanelli's Parc y Sgarlets as well.

Why thank you for name check Ian

KCFM haven't covered City for a few years now. We just do score updates etc. The BBC do it here, far too expensive to try and compete against them

Yes, this is a bit annoying - for some reason Saturday's Matchday Live and Call Collymore haven't been uploaded to talkSPORT Listen Again, although Sunday's live coverage and phone-in has been. I was hoping to check that Roger Hughes was talkSPORT's pitchside reporter at the Liberty Stadium for their first live Premier League commentary of the season (as it had been mentioned he would be on the Sports Breakfast weeks ago), can anyone confirm this for me?

Also, as a regular listener to talkSPORT's football coverage, what do you make of the decision to have Matchday Live and Sunday Exclusive starting an hour later to accommodate The Warm Up into the schedule? I'm not a fan, I think talkSPORT a losing a step on their rivals by starting an hour later and we as listeners are losing out on some top quality previews and discussions that we got in the first hour of both programmes in previous seasons.

Kelly used to be a regular Fighting Talk panellist before joining talkSPORT in 2008 and I think he'd be a really good fit as its new host”

Not sure if the logistics of that one would work - the Danny Baker show is still in London but Fighting Talk moved to Salford, so not sure whether that would be feasible for DK to travel up to Salford overnight or at stupid o'clock on Saturday.

Yes

Free Radio 80s in the West Midlands covers all Villa, West Brom, Birmingham City and Wolves games under the brand The Goalzone. If they are on at the same time, they split them into AM/DAB depending on area. They also used to cover Coventry City, but not anymore due to the uncertainty.

Jack FM Oxfordshire also cover Oxford games under the brand Big Banana.

Signal 2 also cover Stoke games as far as I am aware.

Unsure on any others

I agree, effectively this means an hour less of Adrian Durham who is Talksport's trump card when they take on 5 Live. Adrian has an incredibly long day as he still is around well after the final whistles and it may lessen his burden, but he is THE top presenter in the football media (TV as well) IMO. The fact that the pundits on Matchday Live who are all at worst decent (and I take your point on Ray Parlour, having given him more of a listen) and at best very good, and also that they are live at the grounds in most cases, builds up the atmosphere of the football ahead, with other rivals lagging behind. Matchday Live is the best programme Talksport put out, and it seems a huge own goal to reduce its duration. Throwing one back at you, given that you, quite rightly point out that Talksport's strength is having so many local reporters with an in depth knowldege, it seems against Talksport's normal policy to have Dom McGuiness used outside of his normal Lancashire area quite frequently so far this season.

"Big Banana" hasn't returned this season it seems.

Wish FM still cover Wigan Athletic and Tower FM Bolton Wanderers - both home and away commentaries - up here in the North West

Just checked that out and your right.

Besides, the commentary rights now cost a fortune, and you would need a very large amount of listeners to temp the advertisers to make it cost effective
Mark.

BBC Radio Scotland, 20/8/13

Richard Gordon presenting Sportsound on 810MW, with Graham Spiers.

Shakhter Karagandy v Celtic (4pm) - Liam McLeod and Stuart Duff (commentary)

There's problems with the ISDN line from Kazakhstan and it sounds like the commentary is coming via Skype or such like.

To draw up a list of commercial radio stations that do local radio football commentaries on a team-by-team, league-by-league (at least as far as the English Football League goes) basis:

Premier League
Aston Villa & West Bromwich Albion - Free Radio 80s (Orion Media)
Everton & Liverpool - Radio City & City Talk (Bauer Media)
Stoke City - Signal 1 (UTV Radio)
Swansea City - Swansea Sound (UTV Radio)

Championship
Birmingham City - Free Radio 80s (Orion Media)
Bolton Wanderers - Tower FM (UTV Radio)
Wigan Athletic - Wish FM (UTV Radio)

League One
Bradford City - The Pulse of West Yorkshire (UTV Radio)
Wolverhampton Wanderers - Free Radio 80s (Orion Media)

League Two
Chesterfield - Peak FM (UTV Radio)

I believe that is a complete list of English league clubs with commercial radio coverage. Signal Radio in Staffordshire have shifted all of their Stoke City coverage onto FM station Signal 1 in the last few months, having aired all but Saturday afternoon games on AM station Signal 2 upon beginning their coverage. Signal also provides updates on Port Vale and Crewe Alexandra as well.

In the close season, we've seen a number of teams losing their commercial radio coverage - Coventry City on Free Radio 80s, Oxford United on Jack FM Oxfordshire and Leeds United on the now-closed Yorkshire Radio.

I definitely agree with what you have said about Matchday Live and the decision to shorten it.

On Dom McGuinness - having searched this thread he's covered two Leeds United home games for talkSPORT so far, on top of a couple in Lancashire (one at Blackburn and Manchester City's home game last night). I don't think there's too much in this, we haven't heard much of John Temple so far this season who usually covers Leeds for talkSPORT but I'm sure he'll return in due course and Dom will return to covering the Manchester clubs when they begin to play home games at the weekend. It's probably just a short term thing given recent fixtures and perhaps short term holidays, absences etc.

It was nice to hear Dom doing interviews at the England and Scotland press conferences ahead of last week's international, a bit of a blast from the past of the days when he used to cover England as talkSPORT's chief football correspondent (the last reporter to have this title I believe) before going freelance in the early 2000s. He is one of talkSPORT's best correspondents in my opinion.
