Cricket: Second Ashes Test Match
Australia v England - Jack Bannister

No Richard Keys and Andy Gray tonight, as Mark Saggers stayed on after doing commentary on the World Cup Finals draw to present a special programme from the venue in Bahia hosting it. He didn't have a co-host as he usually would but was joined by a number of journalists including Gabrielle Marcotti, Charlie Wyatt, Sean Wheelock, Marcel van der Kraan, Tim Vickery and the travel expert Simon Calder during the three hours. Elsewhere, it was double duty for Danny Kelly today, as he presented his BT Sport 1 TV show with Danny Baker a couple of hours after sitting in for Paul Hawksbee with Andy Jacobs on H&J between 1-4pm.

On a different note, good to have you back posting Ian. I've missed your contributions over the past few weeks, your efforts detailing sports coverage information from Wales and the west of England are much appreciated.

Do you ever post anything positive?

talkSPORT carried reports on Gateshead v Oxford United on Thursday night, something I don't imagine Radio 5 Live will have done (I would be happy to be proven wrong on that if they did) given that they devote that weeknight evening to coverage of sports other than football and often pre-recorded output at that.

As for their Saturday afternoon coverage, as I've posted on here previously I'd much rather hear Adrian Durham giving regular full scorechecks from all of the day's Football League, Conference and FA Cup games (including information about goalscorers and sendings off, which you don't typically get from 5 Live Sport) than taking up much of that time with updates from a reporter at a single, tokenistic "featured" game from those competitions. I find the Matchday Live approach a much more effective way of following my team on a Saturday afternoon.

Sunday 8th December - TCR 106.8FM

Mike Thomas presented The Sports Zone from The Lamb

FA Cup Second Round
Tamworth v Bristol City - Nigel Vaughan and Mike Thomas (2pm partial commentary)

I dipped into a bit of TCR's - a community radio station in Tamworth - coverage of today's game at The Lamb, with this being available online, unlike that of BBC WM. TCR weren't doing a full commentary but were interspersing spells of commentary, either from presenter Mike Thomas or Nigel Vaughan, who is also the stadium announcer at The Lamb you will have heard on ITV's coverage, between records. Not the ideal way to cover a football match - it was the same the last time I tuned in on the final day of the 2012/13 Conference season - but I could well imagine that their remit as a community station might dictate the amount of music they have to play and how much speech they can broadcast. Still, TCR provides a very good service for Tamworth fans - I know it is the only station that covers all of their home games and I think they have a presence at most of their away matches as well.

i was hoping that WM's commentary would be omline so i could listen 2 it while watching the game. I have to say the bits of WM's coverage i heard was bad because of Daz Hale as he was talking as if he had matched Tamworth all season when he hasn't and made some silly comments the good point was Mike Taylor.

The FA Cup 3rd round draw leaves some reasonable live TV games and a few non-league teams for the 3pm Sat package that 5Live cover

I imagine 5Live & TS will be happy

It'll be interesting to see whether or not talkSPORT take the opportunity to do a 3pm commentary on FA Cup Third Round Saturday or if they'll stick with their usual Around the Grounds service.

Last season (their first since winning FA Cup rights for the first time in a decade), they did Around the Grounds at 3pm on Third Round Saturday, interspersed partial commentary on the Brighton v Arsenal 3pm tie into their usual format on Fourth Round Saturday and then did a full commentary at 3pm on Fifth Round Saturday. So that's three different formats for the three FA Cup rounds that include Saturday 3pm matches involving top flight clubs.
