Radio Bristol's FA Cup coverage on Tuesday should be slightly interesting as both of the City's clubs are involved, and are both away from home.

Since the usual 'policy' is to have away games as most FM frequencies as possible, this would not be the case on Tuesday. I'd also guess the Mark Forrest english regions networked show would not be on Radio Bristol / Somerset at all that day.

With Bristol Rovers having the more attractive of the ties (they play Birmingham City), I'd speculate that that would be the FM game, with Bristol City's replay with Watford being on AM.

Looking at the schedule for next Tuesday, 5Live aren't doing commentary on West Ham vs Man City in the 2nd leg, perfectly understandable. There is a Fans Forums special on instead

I wonder when the last time they didn't cover a Semi Final leg though?

I didn't catch Macca's commentary - how did he do? From flicking through talkSPORT Listen Again, I see they stuck with Fulham v Norwich (albeit with plenty of Around the Grounds updates) for the duration rather than switching to another game, although at full-time at Craven Cottage they headed to London Road with Kev Lawrence doing two spells of commentary on the final five minutes of Posh v Kiddie (only punctuated by an update from Hillsborough).

An absolute nonsense that this game was felt to be big enough to need 2 commentators, although this does seem to be the set-up for most Monday night games on 5live this season.

I don't have any strong feelings either way about Radio 5 Live's use of their three person commentary system, but what I really am at a loss to understand is their decision to use Robbie Savage as summariser whenever they have broadcast commentary on Aston Villa, at least on non-Saturday games, this season.

It's not so much that Savage is a former Birmingham City player who was renown for his involvement in his fair share of dust ups in Second City derbies, but last season he really drew the ire of Villa fans when he made his cocky and ultimately wrong prediction that they were relegation certainties. So for Radio 5 Live to continually call upon him as summariser on Villa games strikes me as being a case of shooting yourself in the foot big style - they are rendering their coverage unlistenable to Villa supporters and even neutrals like me, who would have considered tuning in to their coverage on Monday had they used a more neutral co-commentator but find Savage to be a massive turn-off.

Given his spells at both clubs, Savage would have been a much more appropriate choice to co-commentate on Radio 5 Live's live commentary on Leicester City v Derby County in the Championship on Friday night...oh wait.

I was listening to the podcast of Gerry Armstrong's My Sporting Life during a long train journey yesterday (talkSPORT have just restarted uploading recent editions of MSL, in mp3 form, to their website: click here) and was interested to hear them using clips of Alan Green commentating on some of Gerry's goals from Northern Ireland's 1982 World Cup qualifying campaign. Indeed such was his much younger sounding voice, I didn't recognise that it was him until Gerry and host Danny Kelly made a mention of a "youthful Alan Green" doing the commentary.

Hearing this had me wondering who Green was commentating on those qualifying games for. The My Sporting Life series typically uses commentary clips from the ITV archive - indeed they used Gerald Sinstadt's ITV commentary on Gerry's famous winning goal against Spain during the 1982 World Cup finals - but they have been known to use the odd BBC commentary clip as well.

However, in this instance I wonder if Green may have been covering Northern Ireland's qualifiers for Ulster Television (which talkSPORT's own parent company is the radio branch of). I know Green worked for UTV around this time, although he did move to BBC Radio in time to commentate on the 1982 World Cup finals for them. So does anyone know who he would have been covering these games for?

Manchester City v Blackburn Rovers - Sam Matterface and Michael Gray (8.10pm commentary), with Carl Ralley producing

Both Drive Time and Kick Off have called upon talkSPORT Live commentator Alex Crook, who is also the owner of the M&Y News Agency in Hampshire and a regular Southampton correspondent for various national newspapers, to discuss the departure of chairman Nicola Cortese from St Mary's.

On the South Coast theme, at the weekend talkSPORT's live match producer Carl Ralley tweeted his approval of how Chris Wise was commentating on Oxford United v Portsmouth for BBC Radio Solent on Saturday. Matterface, Crook, Ralley and Wise were all involved in 107.4 The Quay Radio's live coverage of Pompey in the 2000s.
