I don't know why Newstalk haven't struck the sort of deal with the Football League that talkSPORT had between 2006 and 2012, enabling them to do commentary on the League Cup Final without being required to broadcast commentaries on any of the earlier games from the competition. I think this would suit the station very well and prevent Off The Ball from having a glaring gap in its line-up on this Sunday every season.


Just a small correction to this - Stan actually presented Call Collymore from the talkSPORT studios in London, although Saggers stuck around at Wembley to present the half-time segment in their coverage of Aston Villa v Norwich City.

I enjoyed Andrew McKenna and Stuart Pearce's commentary from Villa Park - they have combined well on the two occasions they have worked together so far and from the talkSPORT.co.uk schedule I see they are listed to be commentating on Arsenal v Everton in the FA Cup Sixth Round on Saturday. As we know both will be heading out to Brazil in the summer, it will be interesting to hear if they are to be a regular pairing during the World Cup.

On BBC Nottingham Colin Slater is still going strong at 80 doing the Notts commentary

Gary Taphouse has tweeted that he'll be with Michael Gray and Graham Courtney for Hull v Sunderland in the FA Cup on Sunday for talkSPORT.

BBC Radio 5 Live have confirmed Hull v Sunderland will entirely be on Sports Extra - same with Manchester City v Wigan but the second half will also be on 5 Live.

It's because of England v Wales in the Six Nations - which for me - is rightly on the main 5 Live station.

I agree with you when it comes to Radio 5 Live prioritising the key England v Wales match in the Six Nations ahead of Hull City v Sunderland and the first half of Manchester City v Wigan, this is exactly what I predicted when writing about this on here at the back end of last week. I note that Radio 5 Live will also be prioritising commentary on Arsenal v Everton in the FA Cup over Manchester United v West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League, which will be on Radio 5 Live Sports Extra. As the afternoon wears on, Cardiff City v Fulham in the Premier League will be 5 Live's 3pm commentary - Absolute Radio have opted for Crystal Palace v Southampton - with Ireland v Italy in the Six Nations on Sports Extra and then Scotland v France on 5 Live.

As for talkSPORT's FA Cup coverage on Sunday, Nigel Pearson has tweeted that he'll be commentating on Sheffield United v Charlton Athletic, while Ray Houghton and Stan Collymore are listed on the talkSPORT.co.uk schedule page's description for Sunday Exclusive along with Mark Saggers and Michael Gray. With Call Collymore following the live coverage, you'd expect Stan to be co-commentating on Manchester City v Wigan Athletic meaning Ray should be with Nigel Pearson at Bramall Lane. As Sam Matterface will be commentating on Hull City v Sunderland for ITV, by process of elimination I'd expect Nigel Adderley to work with Stan at the Etihad Stadium. Of course we know it is Andrew McKenna and Stuart Pearce on duty for Arsenal v Everton on Saturday at lunchtime with their usual Premier League commentary team of Sam and Stan covering Chelsea v Tottenham Hotspur in the evening.
