talkSPORT carried updates on this morning's (BST) Chelsea v Real Madrid friendly, the final of the International Champions Cup, from Miami, Florida from their US correspondent John Kreger during Extra Time with Mike Graham and Toby Gilles. John was also on-site for them at the Everton v Valencia game from Miami on Wednesday morning and the Chelsea v Internazionale match in Indianapolis last Thursday morning, both from the same tournament.

22:00 My Sporting Life with Danny Kelly

*I'd imagine Howzat will be replaced by Full Contact when the new rugby union season gets underway in September.”

Thanks very much for posting the details of talkSPORT's new weekend schedule 4-4-2. The headlines are that Georgie Bingham and Mark Saggers have swapped roles at weekends, with Saggers taking over Sunday Exclusive and Bingham moving to both morning's Weekend Sports Breakfast shows with Micky Quinn, and that Danny Kelly will be presenting the new Season Ticket show between the WSB and the live football coverage, this being in addition to Thursday night Kick Off and My Sporting Life which are to continue into the new season. I've posted my thoughts on the schedule changes in the talkSPORT Chat thread if anyone cares to read them.

As for the Sunday 8-10pm slot, I expect the final edition of Howzat to go out on Sunday 25th August (the final day of the Fifth and final Ashes Test match), with Full Contact returning on Sunday 1st September (a week before the start of the new Premiership and Pro12 seasons).

In other news, I notice that talkSPORT has revamped their websites and have merged the old talkSPORT.co.uk into talkSPORT.com, which previously had been the web address for their international service talkSPORT Live. I imagine that part of their intention behind doing this is to encourage web-based listeners to their international service from outside of the EEC to listen to the main UK station online as well.

Interesting news and a sensible decision on the part of all parties involved really. The Premier League only sells live audio commentary rights to the UK and the Republic of Ireland (although I know the World Service extends some of 5 Live's commentaries worldwide, but the BBC's deal is primarily for Britain) so I never really saw the need to block the talkSPORT Live service to the parts of continental Europe that are in the EEA in the first place. I'm glad it's reach has been extended.

I do wonder if this extension indicates that talkSPORT might be on the verge of signing an agreement with a station(s) in Europe in order for them to carry their service as they done have with a number of broadcasters outside of Europe. In the days of the Premier League Radio service in the late 2000s, as well as Newstalk in Ireland I believe a Scandinavian radio station (one from Sweden I think) carried their English language weekend commentaries during the few seasons when that was going. I wonder if they'd be an appetite for this sort of service in Scandinavia today.

I also note that this press release mentions that talkSPORT have recently done deals with broadcasters in China, Singapore and Vietnam on top of their deal with Dial Global in the USA as mentioned on here last week. So going into the Community Shield this weekend, talkSPORT Live's international partners are as follows:

Australia - SBS Radio (English and Mandarin)
Canada - Bell Media's TSN Radio and TEAM Radio stations (English)
China - Adrep China (Mandarin)
Ghana - Citi FM (English)
Malaysia - Mix FM (English); Sinar FM (Bahasa Malay)
New Zealand - Radio Sport (English)
Nigeria - Brila FM (English)
Singapore - Red Card Sports Radio (English, Mandarin and Bahasa Malay)
United States - Sirius XM FC (English); Dial Global (English and Spanish)
Vietnam - Voice of Vietnam (English and Mandarin?)

John will be with Alistair Bruce-Ball for England/Scotland. ABB's first England game I think.

ABB is certainly one commentator who will benefit from Darren Fletcher's departure.

Corrected.

Radio Leeds didn't have a reporter at the Halifax Town match today. West Yorkshire Sport Daily will be broadcast live from the club's first home match of the season.

This season, I am compiling statistics for Radio Leeds and Radio Humberside. Two aspects of coverage that the statistics will cover will be FM commentaries and which team's matches presenters of the sports programmes attend. Hosts and Leeds United summarisers on Radio Leeds are also included in the stats. Tuesday Nights will be a bit difficult due to me attending a course that will last a few months.
