...The Doctor is a male Time Lord. He is a white, male Time Lord. And going by the fact he has a granddaughter, he is a male, white, straight Time Lord. Get over it.

She was having a joke and it seems she has reeled a few people in.

Besides I doubt she reads the DS who forum so your message might go noticed by her.

Maybe email her your view or pop a letter in the post explaining why The Doctor should not be black, female and gay.

And that should be blindingly obvious.

Hard to tell with Mirren. It's not the first time she's aired her graces over how dull she thinks the traditional set up of the show is. I feel she's trying a bit too hard to win points with the PC crowd for whatever reason.

Don't you mean 'your message might go unnoticed by her'?

I am under no illusions that Dame Mirren has any affiliation with this site. It was a hypothetical 'letter' style reply, nothing more.

She could just be after a part in S8 Reckon she could be good.We allady have had Frances Barbr as the wicked Kovarian. Then we had Celia Imrie as Miss Kissnger. If she is not villain of the episode she could allways play the queen. 12 and Clara could stop by buckingham palace for tea and scones betwen saving the world.

Really? Really!?

Ok, so let's see. River Song is a white female. Oh hang on. No, she was also black!

The Doctor being male I get, but why the hell shouldn't he be black? He can be ginger, grey, blonde, etc. The colour of his skin shouldn't be an issue at all.

As for your thoughts on him always being straight. Why? Every Doctor has a totally different personality from the previous. Why should his sexuality be constant?

This, basically. I see no problem with him being black and I don't why having a granddaughter has to mean you're straight, there is such a thing as liking both. But I've always sort of seen him as pansexual/label-less, I don't know why, I just have.

I'm guessing she doesn't exactly go out of her way to give Doctor Who commentary, interviewers just keep bringing up for her. Every answer she's given has been rather tongue in cheek and I don't see the problem really. Nothing she says will ever influence the show. It's DS' fault for creating an article about anything she says.

I can't seriously believe anyone took this even the remotest bit seriously (even if getting Whoopi Goldberg on board could be a lot of fun! ).

Her very wording is an indication she's just joking around, though that's not to say she wouldn't approve of a woman, or a black Doctor, or a gay Doctor.

--

For me, a black Doctor is perfectly fine. If the man can totally overhaul his hair, his bone structure, his height and weight... there is no reason to suggest the pigment of his skin couldn't change with it. Simple as.

I don't want a gay Doctor, but I don't want a heterosexual Doctor either. Not outright. You can have all the River Song and Rose relationships you want, and all the Jack and Rory kisses you want as well. Have a bromance and take it seriously towards the next level, or another woman in the future, I don't care. The Doctor shouldn't be sexualised...he just has different relationships with the different people he knows. No labels, simple as.

I'm neutral on a female Doctor. If they got the right actress, and made sure they didn't jump the shark with the concept then I think it could work one day.

The fact River Song was black is totally irrelevant. She's not The Doctor, who for 50 years has been portrayed as a caucasian male whose sexuality has no bearing on the show. Ans why should it? Why is it necessary? I have no issues with race, sex or sexuality in any way whatsoever, and there are plenty of adult orientated shows on television that cater for these topics. Doctor Who isn't one of these shows. I was merely stating a fact that he is what he is and this has been a constant since the show's inception, and I find Mirren's constant harping irritating.

That, and the colour of the TARDIS are the only things that have stayed a constant. At least the TARDIS had been given a reason for that. The Doctor has had no such rule imposed.

Just because something always is, does not mean it always should be. That is a very, very weak argument. Now, I'm not saying we should change that, just saying there is absolutely no reason to assume it can't change. In fact, we have examples on the show that lead us to the realisation it's more than possible, and at least somewhat likely to happen eventually.

And the reason you have is actually a counter-intuitive argument - it makes it all the more reason to affect the change. Your reason sounds exactly like: I don't want it to change. Not a very nice reason, either.

I never once said it shouldn't change, I just don't understand the constant demand for it to change. Why not make The Doctor American while we're at it?
