Unwanted commentary

Help!! I've noticed that we've started getting audio commentary (which I'm assuming is an aid for the blind) on some channels/programmes.

I've been through the settings on both the TV and Sky box (having assumed something had been set, like with subtitles) but can't see anything.

Watching the Call Centre last night, I kept getting a running commentary ie '2 men wearing suits are walking into the building' 'someone is turning off the lights'. it's driving me mad!

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Look for Audio Description or AD in the settings menu. Quite likely it's the telly rather than the Sky box.

May even be a button on the remote.

That's what I thought but nothing is different. There's an 'audio' button on the remote but, when you press it, nothing comes up on the screen. I'm almost ready to buy a new tv!!

You should find the AD setting on the help button on the Sky remote

Perhaps if you told us what TV you have that might help

The Audio button could well do the deed. But if there is no AD or other alternative audio channel associated with the programme you are currently watching it might not do anything. So try it when you do get a channel with AD and see if it works then.

Some TVs display an AD icon in the information banner where they show the Now-Next programme info. and maybe also in the EPG when you highlight a programme. That might help track down a programme with AD.

The TV is a Technika (from Tesco).

There's none of this audio commentary on the other episodes of the Call Centre. My son tells me it was on Spongebob the other day too.

Thanks

So probably no chance of finding a manual for the thing online then!

Thinking about it if you are getting AD from watching a Sky channel then it is the Sky box inserting the Audio Description. So have a read of this

https://accessibility.sky.com/sky-tv...io-description

Might help. The telly is likely to insert AD from it's Freeview tuner only. So chances are the AUDIO button only works when watching Freeview.

Great, thanks for that 😊. Will have a read and hopefully get to the bottom of it. Never watch through freeview due to poor signal.

As chrisjr said, in that case it's the Sky box that you've set to provide audio description - if you press Help on the Sky remote it brings up a little menu allowing you to select both Audio Description and Subtitles.
