How is this the fault of Sky/ITV?

You do know how the process works don't you, when they bid for rights, it isn't like Ebay or an auctions house, where everyone sits upping their bids (knowing what the last bid was), till no one is left, and you win.

It is done by closed auction, whereas everyone submits their bids, and no one knows what the others bid, sometimes it can go to a second or third round, and the highest wins, if Sky/ITV did not know how much BT were going to bid, they can't outbid them, unless they also go in for some unrealistic high price as well.

Any news on the Showcase matches yet ???”

Nothing on listed on BT yet.
But if it is Wednesday like last time, in terms of British clubs, it is Man City and United I believe.
Still not sure if the qualifying game counted as the United game this season.
Of course it may not be one. But would think that of the 12 FTA games, we know that we had qualifier, Roma v Barcelona and final to come. So 9 games left.
I wonder in strategy terms would they want to show more FTA at group to guarantee showing British clubs once a season. I would think knockout games with British clubs might have more value.

Thankfully BT seem to have re-thought this, Digiguide is now showing CL Goals as being on ESPN both nights of Matchday 3 as well as tomorrow and Wednesday.

Great news, ESPN it will be for me then, on both nights.

Exactly the same for me, the Goals show was brilliant in the first week, and considering my team are in the Europa League, I have no real desire to watch just one match in particular.

Judging by the fact the show tripled its Tuesday figures on Wednesday, it was the same for a lot of others as well. "Only" ~25k and 75k, but it's a lot more than would have watched if it had been stuck on BTS Extra 7 as was initially rumoured - and I think that number will only increase throughout the season as more people see that it's a great concept well executed.

Who did the presentation in the studio last night ??
Gary Lineker has a family bereavement which explains Dan Walker doing MOTD on Saturday as well

Jake Humphrey, with Rio Ferdinand, Gianluca Vialli and Glenn Hoddle.

Condolences to Gary Lineker and his family.

Something that annoyed me last night were the score updates during coverage of Porto-Chelsea. I wanted to watch the goals show after it (as a dynamic alternative to the highlights show) and the spoilers were obviously frustrating.

The same was not the case with PSV-Man Utd in MD1 - only the other game in the group received updates during the coverage.

Is this to do with the channel the game is on? Porto-Chelsea was on BTSE as opposed to PSV-Man Utd which was on BTS2. Is it that the 'main game' is given the updates treatment and the others are not (including the red button games)?

I agree, I am late to the goals show but watched part of it last night, it's a great idea well executed. I also like the optional inverted L on the main channels, that also is well implemented, I like the way it appears instantly on pressing the red button, with no interruption to the match so you can flick it on and off as many times as you wish.

The hour highlights once again at 10 were more than an hour.
If you have a sky box I would advise you tape the programme at eleven as well to see the end !

3 years in a row for Chelsea

At least 3 of the last 5 for Arsenal

Same and hardest draw for the 2 London clubs

No speculation this season about who has what leg.

Whatever will we do with ourselves?

Strange they have put Barcelona on same night as Bayern

Well they couldn't put Barca on the same night as Atletico or Real, or Dynamo or PSG, so the options were limited.

Add to that Bayern couldn't play on the same night as Wolfsburg or Juventus on the same night as Roma, and you are really limited with options.

Good point

Another factor is Sporting home in first leg Thursday
So Benfica playing Home Tuesday gives a gap for visiting fans in Lisbon

Something like this could have worked:

Arsenal v Barcelona
Benfica v Zenit St Petersburg

Juventus v Bayern
Kiev v Man City

PSG v Chelsea
PSV v Atletico Madrid

Roma v Real Madrid
Gent v Wolfsburg

Can't have 2 games in Madrid the same week

Atletico Madrid v PSV and that would be fine!

But that would be easy to fix by swapping the 3rd pairing with either the 1st or 2nd, eg:

Arsenal v Barcelona
Benfica v Zenit St Petersburg

PSG v Chelsea
PSV v Atletico Madrid

Juventus v Bayern
Kiev v Man City

Roma v Real Madrid
Gent v Wolfsburg
