Sorry, I'm an Arsenal fan so I'll be at their games (possibly including one or two of the away ones) - so being selfish I'd like the choice of Spurs or Leicester on the other night. But yes, I can imagine BT quite liking Arsenal/Leicester one night and Spurs/Man City the other.

Arsenal and Spurs will be paired for the simple reason both can't play at home on the same game night

They can work around that, Im sure the other year two London clubs ended up playing the same night yet there never ended up playing home on the same night.

Arsenal and Chelsea were on the same night last season and the Manchester clubs were on the same night in 2011-12.

The same has happened with both Manchester clubs in the past, last season for example.

I wasn't aware that both teams were to be playing 6 home games. Is this a new UEFA initiative?

As said on previous page
1 The TV paired clubs are kept apart so one plays Tues the other Weds
2 Teams close by are kept apart by making one home one away each week

Pairings in other countries:
ESP - Barca & Real (a no-brainer)
GER - Bayern & Dortmund (a no-brainer)
FRA - Paris & probably Lyon (as Monaco have virtually no fans)
POR - no idea because the big 3 have qualified: Benfica, Porto, Sporting
ITA - no pairing required because only Juve and Napoli have qualified

I don't see the Goals Show going behind the Red Button, it might stay on ESPN or move to BTS1.

I'd imagine they would be paired though to keep them on separate nights.

I would pair Arsenal and Spurs, so that the two higher rating teams don't play on the same night.

Yes, it's always the two highest rating teams, and most seasons it is Arsenal and Man United who are kept apart.

Assume it will be Arsenal and Spurs if they do the same - but not sure if City or Spurs rate higher.

In the last three Premier League seasons Arsenal have rated better than Man City who in turn have rated better than Spurs. That said the gap isn't that big. Last season, for example, Arsenal averaged 1,049,000 per game, for City it was 1,001,000 and Spurs got 988,000. With Sky last season, Spurs actually outscored City. It's also worth saying that Leicester beat all three of them last season with 1,083,000 - but that was probably because a bigger proportion of their televised games were against big 6 clubs.

Personally I would keep Arsenal and Spurs apart. Obviously we won't know until we've seen the draw, but I reckon Arsenal are more likely than City to get into trouble in their group. Looking at the teams, the best Spurs could probably hope for from Pots 1 and 2 are CSKA and Porto. Nevertheless, if there is a group of death, there is a very good chance that it will involve Tottenham. However, I suspect BT might opt to keep Man City away from Arsenal because Pep is a big story.

Yes, of course. I should have made myself clearer. When a country has exactly 2 teams in the group stage, these teams are automatically paired to keep them apart. What I meant was: There's no need for the Italian rights holder to "nominate" 2 teams.

That's what I mean they will be paired for home and away so they can't clash and both play at home on the same match days.

Aresnal and Spurs are paired just like in the premier league and will not be able to play at home on the same game nights, Arsenal and Chelsea can play at home at the same night.

Man City and Man Utd have never played at home on the same night in any season in the Champions League. Games were different times in the Europa League, but they do what the can to have teams in the same smaller cities not playing at home on the same evenings

No and I think you know what I meant.

Well, no, because "pairing", in UEFA parlance, means "not playing on the same day", and that's the definition being quite rightly used in this discussion.

Am I supposed to be able to read your mind to find out that you're actually using a completely different definition?

Arsenal and Chelsea have not played at home together
UEFA make sure there are not 2 games in same city on one night

Well yes, this has already been discussed.

That was an interesting summary before the draw, particularly the bit about the scheduling of fixtures being done by a computer. I always thought the clubs negotiated the fixtures as Arsenal invariably always seem to begin and end with away fixtures.

Porto paired with Benfica, and playing Leicester!

So Arsenal weren't paired with Leicester, not much of a surprise though.

Barcelona play Man city (again)

So I think that means Arsenal were paired with Spurs...if a pairing was nominated at all.

And Arsenal not paired with Man City either.

Thus pairings were:

Arsenal + Spurs
Leicester + Man City

The pairing would have been done - otherwise it could cause problems elsewhere - ie they don't know what order teams come out - by putting teams on the same side it might prevent the rest of the draw working - as there have to be spaces in both halves for all other pairings to work.
