Be careful this person goes OTT when someone disagrees with him such as Now TV over Sky TV...................................

Dont think BT have ever said that the Leicester/Porto match would be on Showcase, did they?

Oh, and hello Keith. Any niche views for us today? Or are you finally going to provide some evidence that NOW TV call Sky Sports "Sky Sport"?

@Thescout

Thats it for Leicester

BT are only forced to show them free ONCE in whole season

Indeed, if Leicester were shown in Matchday 1 you arent going to see them for free again, unless they make the CL or Europa League finals.

I'm not sure "forced" is the right word.

It's never been confirmed that UEFA required FTA coverage as part of the deal, or if it was just BT trying to make things palatable to the general public.

Maybe they didn't then... but for whatever reason I came into this thread thinking that it was going to be - so when folks were mentioning the Leicester game not being available, I assumed it was last night's game being talked about but of course it wasn't. I was thinking "oh, I'm glad I wasn't imagining things then" when in actual fact it seems that I was. That's what's led to the confusion here.

I hadn't registered the fact that their last CL game was shown live prior to looking it up and making my post, because like you say it makes sense that two of their games wouldn't be showcased for free in succession.

If I didn't ask which other matches had been shown on the Showcase channel then you would have just thought that I was agreeing with you all and that would've been that.

No,the comments about the "game not being available" are in relation to the Sky platform. There was talk on here for weeks about BT Sport being unencrypted on Sky to allow people to watch the Leicester match 2 weeks ago, and then on the evening in question this was not the case.

Given your posting history I really don't know whether to laugh or cry at that comment.....

He still needs to prove his claim that NOW TV call Sky Sports "Sky Sport"

I know you all want the Champions League to return to Sky Sports and ITV from 2018. Next year we will find out if that happens.

Its very sad some people are complaining about BT Sport's choices of live games from the champions league and the Europa League on freeview..

If you have BT infinity Broadband you get the complete BT Sport for next to nothing in contrast in subscribing to sky sports for everything

So since you dont know, they could well being forced to show each team once, I know what I choose to believe.

Nobody knows except BT and UEFA.

Which is why "forced" is the wrong word to use.

No you can pre-pend it with likely being forced, so it isnt the wrong word, it just wasnt worded quite right

No, because "likely" still implies it's a UEFA requirement.

"Committed" would probably be the most appropriate word.

No, because we don't know that either.

As I said, it's never been officially confirmed or denied that BT are contractually-obliged to show any games FTA.

As part of the negotiations, Uefa insisted that some matches, including both finals, were shown free-to-air in order to preserve the value of its sponsorship deals and ensure that they could be seen by a wider audience.

That's not official confirmation. It's Guardian speculation.

It's not really next to nothing though because the cost of the broadband and line rental is hideously expensive compared to other fibre broadband services.

Sky used to manage this fine...”

Looks like BT have managed to get the Extra games to record beyond 21.30 this week - I checked at 21.32 yesterday evening and Atletico-Bayern was still recording on my Sky+ planner.

They've also sorted out the commentators giving out the scores to the extent that the information is more logical. So yesterday I started with Celtic-Man City and they gave out the scores of the other game in the group, which was fine. I then switched at half-time to Atletico-Bayern and they gave the scores of the English games and also the other game in that group (Rostov-PSV) but nothing else.

I still prefer the Sky way of informing viewers of scores and giving people the option to avoid them if they want to. So I may still be yelling at the telly come the quarter finals when they inform us of events of the other match in progress (first world problem, I know ) but a distinct improvement on MD1 from my point of view.

P.S: What a stonking good match between Cel-Man C, I only watched because I was reasonably confident they wouldn't tell me the score of the other game but I'm very glad I did!

I watched PSG and they gave all the scores from the two English clubs with no warning
