The number of people watching one of the games and wanting to avoid the scores from the other games must be minimal. Just something you are going to have to suck up, guys.

But did they give the scores for the other matches around Europe? As that was quite frustrating on the first night when I watched Dynamo-Napoli...

No just those two

I disagree. While I am just watching the Goals show for the opening group stage rounds it would be much, much better later on during the final decisive group stage rounds to watch one game live then watch the highlights for the other games later without spoilers. My take on it is that TV sport coverage people are not really sports fans and do not understand the issue.

Anyone wanting to keep track of the scores across all the games while watching one game live have plenty of ways of doing so, why deny those who do not the means to watch spoiler-free?

For me it's different strokes (insert your own ending here)...I totally understand that many people do want to keep abreast of the scores in the other games. Nevertheless Sky managed this in a fairly unobtrusive fashion that didn't spoil the results for those (maybe a small minority) that wanted to watch more.

This is especially pertinent as we get towards the round of 16 and quarters when there are only 2 games taking place. Sky would just put the score up at intermittent intervals regardless of if there'd been a goal or not (so the very presence of the score bar itself wasn't an indicator of a goal in the other game). It was low-tech but it worked for both that did want to know and those that didn't.

Of course the broadcasters could not provide score updates, or provide them in an unobtrusive way like Wal28 suggests, but the majority of viewers want to be kept up-to-date with scores as they go in.

No no no no, everyone wants to avoid them, the people of Digital Spy insist on it(!!)

Is wanting to avoid the scores a niche thing?

I don't believe so but even so you have ignored my comment about there being plenty of other ways for them to do so.

99% of people are not avoiding other scores on UCL surely... If you want to avoid them you'd be avoiding them all if you were working etc.

Really expect broadcasters to pick and choose games to not give you latest scores from?!

Or you could not watch any of the live matches and just watch the highlights later?

This!

Sky gave the scores out, like every other broadcaster does!
Its just moaning for the sake of it!

Do you truly believe the majority prefer to avoid scores from other games?

I would argue they would be a very huge minority, with those wanting the scores a majority and those who couldn't care whether they give them or not second. I know when I'm watching my team in Europe I want to know how the other game in the group is doing, that's only natural.

Sport is a live experience; viewer numbers for match reruns are minimal. There just isn't enough hours in the day for most people to be watching more than one game anyway.

As someone rightly suggested, if you are so interested in reruns to the point of wanting scores not given out during the live game(s) then it might be best to avoid the live coverage altogether.

I remember watching a match via a foreign (i think Turkish broadcaster) that popped up a score alert with a little noise and then a 5 second countdown to it so you could old fashioned "look away now" if you so wished. Might be a compromise.

Why give a reply that does not answer the point of mine you quoted?

Do you mean a tiny minority?

I do concur that the majority of people watching the games will want score updates on a regular basis - my point is that the way Sky did it was a good compromise between keeping people abreast of developments in other matches and ensuring that it wasn't done in an obtrusive fashion for those (such as myself) that were watching multiple matches.

I agree that watching Dynamo Kiev-Napoli and then Legia Warsaw-Dortmund (as I wanted to on MD1 but switched away from the 2nd game to PSG-Arsenal) isn't something a lot of viewers would be doing but flashing up live scores from around Europe really screws up this plan.

Anyway on MD2 it was much better as I mentioned in an earlier post.

Get on the blower to BT to ensure they don't tell the scores because of the 6 people in the UK who have 5 Sky Plus boxes on the go recording games to watch in 4 weeks time then...

Telegraph reporting just under £200m rise in business rates for bt. As sky isn't based in central London, I'd guess their increase will be smaller

Edit: that is just in London, going up by about £550m report bbc. I would expect transitional relief/ change in gov policy

Unfortunately it looks like the Freeview for Sky somehow seems to be impairing BT's ability to list out the other games to record on the EPG. So if you select the Barca-Man City match it just gives that game as the option and not the other matches (Rostov-Atletico etc.) as well.

Likewise for the Man Utd-Fenerbahce match on Thursday - the early games have the Extra matches available on the EPG but the 20.05 matches not so alas.

Do it from BT Sport 2 HD.
