Does it work in that way?

I was thinking the reason these were being suppressed was because the freeview match is on BT2 which is normally where they host the BT Extra games. So I suppose to prevent crafty Sky subs getting extra games which aren't on the freeview they are stopped,

It's the same with the Thursday game in the evening...

For that reason I would imagine it would be the same on the HD channel too on the Sky platform

All the streams are encrypted, Sky viewers can only see the stream BT want to let them see, in this case BT sport 2

Sky Sports News have paid for Nick Collins to go and report from a building which overlooks the Nou Camp.

Even without the rights they are building up to tonights game.

They must want to show UEFA they are interested in the next TV Deal !!

Well even though the epg says freeview on Sky, it seems BT have forgotten to change the encryption and let Sky viewers watch

Picture quality on Talk Talk ch 59 (showcase) is atrocious. I've just plugged my old sky box back in to watch the game on Sky ch 414.

BT Sport 2 SD via satellite is truly awful.

Its a damn sight better than the SD Sky Sports channels and SD Boxnation.

SD in general is dire quality now, BT's ain't as bad as alot of others though!

Premier League Productions have sent a reporter too. Does that mean they are going to bid for the Champions League rights?

He'll be in the press conference too after the match too, like many non-rights holders...

Well in the end the multiscreen option was on BTS3 but when recording the match the alternatives were not listed out. A bit disappointing - not sure whether that was an oversight of someone at BT or deliberate (not sure why it would be deliberate).

Same tonight - still no multiscreen for the Europa League 20.05 kick-offs.

We've also lost Kuban-Schalke from the 18.00 starts and ended up Sparta-Hapoel To quote Mitchell and Webb, "this match will be the chance to see who is the best team out of the 5th placed one in the Czech league and the 2nd placed team in Israel!"

I was at work so recorded it on Sky+, the recording didn't unencrypt until 40 minutes in during the adverts just before kick-off.

I also recorded the Utd-Fenerbache Europa League game last night and on this one the complete programme including build-up was unencrypted, so I wonder why they didn't/couldn't unencrypt the Champions League coverage until five minutes before kick-off??

Probably technical ineptness on someones part at BT is my guess

Match nights to remain the same in new cycle, note that match days not times so still possibility of 2 games a night

Also looks like Jan is when bidding will begin

Thanks loyalsince. I'm not sure if they'll go to two kick off slots per night, it might work, but I can imagine it causing arguments between different broadcasters.

On a side note, I can't stand interviews that don't ask proper questions. Surely the big question about Euro 2016 is "were UEFA happy that the eventual winner qualified from their group having finished third and not won a game?"

I don't think it would cause much argument.

Ultimately the broadcasters will sign a contract and will know the process before. UEFA will schedule and broadcasters would have to lump it.

If they went two slots, then there would be rules as to who played when.

i.e. Id imagine all British teams would kick off home games at 20.05, and away games at 6pm, as Britain the dominant tv market.

Id guess Spanish home games would be 20.05 too, unless they play an English team and it would be 6pm.

Reading that article I think it is bad news for ever getting free coverage back on ITV. He said very happy with 100% pay TV in UK with either BT or Sky and same in other major markets. Thought a bit dubious the comment the CL brand is strong enough to sustain no free coverage. Should have been honest and said we are only interested in the size of the cheque and the stupidity of broadcasters bidding up prices.

"Yes... because it means the 3rd place rule worked, however dull it was!"

An interesting take on things. The rest of Europe is a big place.

Dominant in their minds must mean

The country that vastly overpaid for the TV rights !
