Fact that Sky have lost out doesn't bother me in fact think it is about time someone did to them what they have done to others in past.
However, the lack of a "terrestrial" option is disappointing big blow to ITV whose coverage of Europa League on ITV 4 has been very useful for football fans without subscriptions to get their live football fix.
The fact that it is 2 years away allows for lots of the technical issues about showing number of games and ensuring as many people as possible get to see games is sorted.

I been reading this on the BT website.

The now I have BT Sport in SD and HD via the Youview box.

There an opportunity here for BT to make a real positive PR move by airing two games FTA every week, thus meaning there is actually an increase on the amount of FTA coverage. They wouldn't even need to be showing the first pick on both nights - if it were the second pick on one night and the third pick (ie. top non-British game) on the other night then it would serve as a good PR move without losing the carrot of both first picks behind the pay wall.

Can anyone clarify the FTA level of BT Sport? What is it's total reach?

And when will they likely start charging for BT Sport for broadband customers? Is there a chance that a charge could be coming this summer?

Yes, people have already told you this. UEFA would not have given them the exclusive rights if they weren't able to ensure they could do this. They could do it now if they wanted via BB over their YouView TV service. The quality is excellent and they will have no problem offering 8 different games at once via BB on BT YouView from 2015.

You admitted you hadn't even heard of BT's YouView service earlier in the thread, so maybe give BT a bit more benefit of the doubt to provide these services given that they have 2 years notice and already have the capabilities to do exactly what you're asking for right now if they had to.

Sky did it when they first launched, but since the late nineties they have been bidding for rights at a level the market will sustain. Their sports channels aren't making an overall loss.

BT can't say the same. They will not recoup £900m by having these rights, so they are overinflating the market.

My real fear is we could end up having to pay two companies vast amounts of money if we want to watch everything.

With household bills going up dramatically year on year and my pay been static for almost 5 years now something will eventually give.

I can really see a scenario where it will cost between £100 and £150 a month for multiple TV subscriptions I.e sky and BT (including non-sport) in the non to distant future. Hope I'm wrong on this but in that scenario if it becomes true the average viewer will have to make tough choices on what they want to watch.”

Illegal streaming will go increasingly mainstream if we end up with a pay tv war long term. Domestic viewers susbscribing to foreign services will also become a real consideration if people can save three figure sums overall.

This suggest that ITV aren't part of the co-exclusive highlights rights talks, which leads to the obvious conclusion that the BBC will have highlights each night of European football, which is a massive coup for them.

So if I switch from Sky Talk/Broadband to BT I will get BT Sport for free (assuming they don't start levying an extra charge for the CL coverage).

Do I lose anything from a TV perspective with Sky by doing that? On Demand isn't still limited to Sky Broadband customers is it?

That would seem like the way to in terms of ensuring I can watch everything if I wanted to?

I'm close to considering that already.

Can't believe people think this deal is good for the football fan.

I find I can only watch one match at a time , sometime I may flick between two matches if one is boring (and usually miss the goals!) don't know how anyone could watch more than 3 at same time . unless you have some strange form of superpower

They might well be, but they still need to answer the questions though, and it would be best if they did it, sooner rather than later.

As for the highlighted bit, this is what I have been saying, and if they don't sort something out, then it would be a massive mistake, and a step backwards.

Hopefully they announce how they actually intend to broacast the group stage matches,(of both competitions) shortly.

You will be able to within a week or so as the software update to enable recording is imminent.

This CL deal only comes into force in August 2015 so you've got a bit of time to consider your options.

Yes you will get it for free, on demand on Sky is availiable through any broadband provider. Whether it will stay free in the next two years for BT customers we will have to wait and see.

If you look at the UEFA release it mentions right to

delayed coverage of both competitions

So all the non British games will be shown at a later time or date !!!!

The slimy old buggers! From hardly any football, they could be in an extremely strong position!

I don't know what to make of this, The FTA offering is very good news and I think BT deserve credit but I think the loss of ITV is a shame. They now have no football!

Unbelievable. For Sky this has to be a big blow, non of it's competitors has ever muscled in like this before.

Sky certainly need to come out and do something quickly to stop a migration of phone/Broadband customers at the very least.

I just checked and I could switch to BT Broadband today and it wouldn't cost me a penny and I'd get BT Sport for free - but Sky would lose £30 a month from me.

Agreed. It won't be football fans paying for it, it'll be line rental payers, even those with no interest in football whatsoever who'll be subsidising BT Sport viewers. The latest line rental hikes were due to the cost of sports rights, this deal with UEFA will likely increase costs more for all landline users.

They officially announced the deal ONE HOUR ago. Seriously, what is your rush? The deal only starts in two years time and you want all the info and guarantees on the same morning as the deal is announced. They have focused on giving people the big news and have probably announced this early because it leaked last night. I am sure they will announce further details in the week, including how they will show group games.

But you will have nothing to worry about, they will be able to cope with multiple games at once through YouView via Infinity. And unlike the Sky Red Button service we have now it'll be in HD. That will be a step forward I would say.

Unless BT produce something akin to SS Red Button in the next two years then it is still a step backwards in terms of choice for the viewer no matter what an individuals preferences are. With the 'Goal Alert' you can follow all the games simultaneously.

We currently don't have exactly the best broadband connection, so I presume that would affect the quality of service from BT YouView?

It is correct that having had Sky since 1994, I haven't had to look into any alternative services before, so I hadn't had the need or inclination to see what these other services were all about, bit do any of them offer recording services like my current Sky+ box does?
Will or does this YouView serivce offer this service? I am guessing that it is not compatable with my current Sky + box, so I would have to disconnect that, and plug in a different box, just to watch these Champions League matches, even though I can watch BT Sport now via Sky?

It does seem like a lot of hassle, just to watch a few more matches, which is a bit annoying really, seeing as I can just watch them all on the one channel at the moment.
