You need to have fibre to get BT Sport on YouView.

Never expected this news. If BT decides to show a match a week FTA then that's fine...although it probably wouldn't be available in HD unless you have YouView, which is crap. If they stick to their minimum of 6-7 games a season FTA then it's worse than the current situation IMO. I have Sky Sports and BT Sport but no FTA broadcaster is a loss.

Hopefully the BBC will have extensive highlights.

I am sure they will announce further details in the week, including how they will show group games.

But you will have nothing to worry about, they will be able to cope with multiple games at once through YouView via Infinity. And unlike the Sky Red Button service we have now it'll be in HD. That will be a step forward I would say.”

It would have been a huge PR win (even more than it is now currently), if they had actually announced how they would be showing the games, rather than just leaving the public to guess.

I will have to look into this YouView type service, as I don't know anything about it, but it does seem like a bit of a hassle, just to watch a few more games, which is a bit dissapointing, I cannot lie there.

And what about those who live in non-Infinity areas? My exchange isn't even in the plans for an upgrade yet.

You don't know that for certain yet. We need more details from BT and they do have two years to sort it out. ATM IMO BT are miles behind Sky and even Virgin when it comes to their TV/Broadband services.

so will Bt Sport try to get Adrian Chiles from Itv?

will Bt sport try for exclusive Premiership rights?

plus will they try to show every game like sky do?

so many questions!, so if they have to recoup nearly a billion pounds, doesn't that mean we the customer will have to pay for this, like your normally do with sky

funny it isnt breaking news so SSN

So I presume that will cost extra then (to get fibre installed)??

So a whole lot of extra cash, just to watch a few more matches, that is really great that is.

Is it 2015 yet? How do you know FTTC/FTTP won't be available in your area then?

Yes, I'm well aware Sky show them all on the red button.

The delayed rights is a seperate part of the deal, not the same thing.

Do you really think BT will pay this amount of money and not offer all of the games live at the same time? They have plenty of time to outline what they're going to do.

Installation is free when you're a new customer. Monthly cost is generally higher than "standard" ADSL2+ broadband but obviously over the next two years it'll drop a bit.

It is good to have both competitions all with the one broadcaster, but it is just the actual details, which need to be sorted out, if it will be possible, and easy to do, to watch all of the matches, then great, but if it starts to become a hassle, and it not being possible unless you change services, or whatnot, then that is where it will be not so great.

Because my exchange isn't even in the plans according to the BT website and these things aren't done overnight.

Every single exchange in Sheffield has been done with the exception of the main one in the city centre which I am on. I assume there must be a good reason for this as a lot of people won't be able to have it, I hardly live on a rural exchange somewhere in the Highlands here.

And as was saying earlier, there will come a point at which a lot of people will decided they have to move over, and with Sky being the other major player, Sky would be incredibly stupid not to go heavy on line rental/broadband offers.

BT can not continue to claim that their service is free, and nor will these piecemeal offering of selected free games convince people - put it this way, you would have to be absolutely off your rocker to pay as much as BT have, only to then make the biggest CL games available to everyone (final notwithstanding).

Jesus, it really is mad when people are coming out in defence of Sky!!!

Ahh, this place is good at times, as you just keep on learning!

I didn't know about these other services until today, so thanks for the update there.

Now I just need to go and find out more about these other services, and if they are at all compatable with my Sky + box, or if they offer recordable progammes like my box does, as I do lie that sort of thing.

No FA Cup, No CL, it isn't a crisis for Sky but thats a lot of live football to be missing.

Funny that, the Times said Sky were close to winning, I'm sure paying that much would have been completely fine had Sky won exclusivity.

Unless they plan to have a red button service, or a way to watch all of the matches at once, and make them recordable, then I just don't, or won't see why people should be celebrating, as it will be a lesser service than we have had previously.

BT had better find some way to actually answer these questions, otherwise this will be a huge loss for the consumer.”

Well it doesn't help when (at time of posting) BT were only awarded these rights 84mins ago and people like you are acting BT better explain EVERYTHING about how they plan to cover the Champions & Europa League otherwise it's the end of sports broadcasting as we know it. It's likely that they haven't been able to sit down and explore in-depth their options in covering the group stages, what pundits they should get to cover the significant increase in games, etc.

The right's don't begin for another year and three/quarters, so I'm sure within due course of July/August 2015 - BT & us the viewing public will know fully how these games will be covered and shown besides the info we know today.

1) Being a smartass for a minute, you can't actually watch all eight Wednesday Champions League games at once. You can see all eight games on the Match Choice screen (if you can get the 'Red Button' service) but you only get audio of one of those games at-a-time
2) A Match Choice service has never existed for the Europa League.

I wonder how much BT Sport subscription will go up to now? £20 p/m for Sky HD customers?
