Personally i am pissed at this news. I hate ITV football mainly anyway but i don't have Sky, all i have is freeview, i think this is horrible news that some of us are going to get zero Champions League football going forward.

No wonder people watch streams online.

The way things are going all we are going to have is the World Cup, Euro's and Olympics live.

Less than 10 years ago we had live Cricket for free, 2 Champions league games a fortnight for free, 4 fa cup games a round live for free, 3 of the 4 open's in Tennis for free, all Formula 1 races for free, i could go on. I hate the way things are now.

Sky have most of the boxing, apart from the few that BoxNation have, including Golden Boy.

I wasn't referring to Wimbledon - see earlier post.

No reason why Sky shouldn't pick up all 4 days of US Masters exclusively. The Open much, much less likely - will stay BBC.

I've spent all afternoon reading the thread. That's why my last post was so long.

As well as wanting a core football following (since that's what they were first built on), I think Sky are also keen to hold onto "general sports fans", so while a bit of golf and tennis may not matter to the average Champions League viewer, it may make a difference to an overall sports fan pondering whether Sky offer them enough all-round sports coverage.

You only get one game on ITV now, you'll stick get at least one game on Freeview and probably highlights of all games, which you don't get on ITV at present.

Due for renewal talks and decision Q1 2014.

realised a lot of people on here are quite young! you have the TCCB /ECB to blame for cricket going behind a pay wall - they went grabbing money and it worked.

lots of the other events are still fta on the 'Crown Jewels' list no way wc ec or olympics will go behind a pay wall

I wonder if there will ever become a day when X broadcaster offers billions over the odds for say the EPL and completely mold every aspect of the league to their requirements. Eg. Only 10 teams, non 3pm kick offs, 1 relegation space. Team mergers etc. It really is the next logical step. Money talks.

I share your thoughts. I would never get Sky out of principle.

I am sure this sporting rights bubble will burst one day.

Why not go down the MLS route and have no relegation?

Why would they, no suggestion any of those changes would actually be commercially successful.

With ITV4's excellent French Open coverage, FTA viewers have the best Grand Slam tennis coverage, they've had for years.

That article doesn't even make any sense.

Quote:
“Rival broadcasters believe there should be a level playing field, with the BBC unable to give away for free events that they have to pay for.”

The BBC pays for events, shows them FTA; ITV does the same.

Tory politicans always do this Beeb-baiting mid-term; near the general election they start praising the BBC as they know how popular it is. It's quite amusing to watch.

I wonder what would happen to the PPV's if BT got the WWE rights? Would BT show them on BT Sport or would the deal just be for Raw and Smackdown, plus the minor shows?

WWE is not even a Sport, why would BT Sport want that, on the other hand, if BT had an entertainment Channel, then it makes sense.

So BT will thrown £1bn at UEFA for exclusive CL rights, yet won't spend money improving their utter s**t broadband.......

I wonder if Lee Dixon will try to do a Martin Brundle and jump ship to ANOTHER broadcaster that has all the tv rights.

By that logic why do Sky have it? What channel is WWE currently shown on? Sky Sports 3 last time I checked.

Yes but it has also been shown on Sky One, how can acting be regarded as a Sport.

My only point is, if BT want people to take their Sport Channels seriously, they really need to stay well clear of WWE.
