And Sky have 5 (6 if you count F1) channels to fill, with mostly 'highlights' shows, magazine and documentary programmes more suited to the History channel.
Mark.

And yet there are times when Sky have live sport on all five (six) channels and the red button, while BT are showing "The Crazy Gang" for the millionth time.

It's swings and roundabouts.

Despite the failure of sky sports 5 being the home of European football there is no doubt that sky sports needs 5 main channels to show all there content. Between Thursday-Monday all channels are usually full

I had a bit of a chuckle at that when I saw it.

You'd have thought they could've found some sort of live action (not necessarily football) to put In that slot rather than just throwing the towel in.

I beg to differ.

5 main Sky Sports channels and a dedicated F1 channel is over kill.

I don't know; Super League, greyhound racing, anything that Sky Sports normally shows as live midweek filler.

Are they doing a studio presentation on the BT Showcase match too?

Would appear so. The programme begins at 19:15 I believe so everything does point towards it being a full match presentation rather than just commentary.

I thought it was new series, not rerun?

So the beginning of the death of the Champions League as it shifts to a two bit broadcaster. Had to unfollow all of the nitwits from BT Sport in recent weeks as their banal self congratulatory bollocks over ripping off the public just became too much.

I know England is a 'big player' in terms of cost of rights etc but to say it's the beginning of the death for a competition because it's moved to a different broadcaster is slightly bizarre to say the least.

What makes a two bit broadcaster?

It's not on Sky, it's on Freeview only (channel 59).

Quite simply, viewership will plummet to new lows. There are still those who refuse to pay for any premium sports and if social media and this forum are anything to go by, there are thousands and thousands of people tied into Sky TV/broadband who (quite rightly) refuse to pay BT's extortionate prices on top of what they pay currently.

What a ridiculous hyperbolic post.

Nobody has seen a minute of BT's proper Champions League coverage to judge whether it's good or bad, so we can discount that part of your post straight away.

As for "ripping off the public" there are options to get said coverage for £0 or £5/month depending on your TV and broadband options of choice - therefore being much cheaper than the £30+ that Sky wanted to allow full viewing of the competition last season.

What was your point again?

That doesn't mean the competition is going to die on it's arse, it just means less people might watch it, but with the amount of money in football, to proclaim BT having the rights in this country means it's the beginning of the death of the CL really makes no sense whatsoever. It's sensationalist nonsense.

It's hardly like UEFA or anyone are going to be thinking "oh hell, what have we done, not enough people are watching in England, we'd better shut the competition down for good before viewing figures in England get too low".

You can't, if you mean BT Sport Showcase.

As soon as figures start to drop in what is one of, if not THE biggest television market then sponsors will start to get itchy. A few million less pairs of eyes on a product every week is a big deal.
